Proverbs 12:27The lazy do not roast any game, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.Proverbs Daily is a reader and listener supported program. And I gotta throw a congrats to myself too, because this is also the 255th Proverbs Daily Devotional I’ve put out this year!At the beginning of this year, I made a solemn commitment to drop a new devotional every day (and I’ve got 110 days left to finish that vow) So pray for ya boy—it’s been a joy, but it’s been work!At first, I was just blogging them on my proverbsdaily.org website. Then in March, I shifted to Substack, and picked up new readers. I always wanted this to be more than just something to read, but something to experienced, so I started experimenting with AI voice-to-text so the devotional can be both heard and read. But I kept hearing from y’all: “Fred, what you’re writing is cool, but we want to hear your voice, not some dry AI voice.” (Shout out to Troy Saha for pushing me over the edge). So by late June, I started recording these daily devotionals in my own voice. And let me tell you—it’s serious work. Those of you that produce content, you already know…It takes about an hour and a half of writing, recording, editing, and posting—for a 5-minute devotional. And that’s daily! Add that to working full time, hustling to get new PID music out, and spending time with the most important person in my life—my wife—and yeah, I’m tired. I’s tirrred! But here’s the truth: I wouldn’t trade it. Because doing this Proverbs Daily has been feeding something on the inside of me. I’m experiencing what Jesus meant when He said:“My meat is to do the will of Him who sent me.” (John 4:34)I did a devo back in April called The Riches of the Hunt on this same verse, so I’m revisiting it in Part Deux, because this verse is so good! It’s saying:“The lazy people don’t even cook what they catch…like they DON’T GET IT, but the diligent feed on the riches of the hunt.”Feeding on the RICHES of the hunt. What are you hunting for right now in life? Does the expectancy of seeing that dream happen ever spark you? That’s where the riches are.Neurologists will tell you: desire itself sparks dopamine. Anticipation. Effort. Striving toward the goal. It’s not just the prize that lights up your brain, it’s the chase. And when that chase is tied to God’s calling—it becomes nourishment for your soul. That’s what’s happening for me in this podcast. I benefit from the grind. From the daily discipline. From the editing, the uploads, the late nights. From feeling great about sharing a well put together 5 minute devotional with a stranger, knowing it’s not just thrown together. From looking back and saying, “Wow. That’s 255 episodes.”It’s work, but I’m feeding on it. I’m in the hunt for it to touch somebody today and help them find their spark! And here’s the good news: this applies to you too. Whatever your “hunt” is—your goal, your calling, your healing, your art, your hustle—don’t despise the process. Because the diligent don’t just get the prize, they grow strong off the pursuit itself.💡 Remember:The reward isn’t just what you catch—it’s who you become while catching it.🙏🏽 PrayerThank you for the riches of the hunt–let’s eat.💡 Today’s Challenge:Name your current “hunt.” Write down one way the process—not the prize—has already changed or fed you. Thank God for that growth.About the AuthorFred Lynch is a creative communicator, author, and Christian Hip Hop pioneer.
