Sex, Drugs & Domestic Abuse
We blast back to the wild 90s in sun-drenched California this week with two total surfer types who might also be drug addicts!  But, don’t worry, it’s only weed! Maybe!

The defendant this week spends his last day before he reports to jail on Judge Judy, battling against his ex. He admits he beat her up, but denies he ruined her stuff. She says he was abusive not just to her, but her couch and clothes, too. It’ll be up to Judge Judy to decide who’s lying and who’s telling the truth — and who gets paid.

At the same time, it’ll be up to us to decide if Judy is innocent or guilty because, of course, this is Judging Judy, the only comedy podcast that turns the tables on America’s favorite TV judge. If Judy did her job, she’s innocent. If she did not, she’s guilty.

Fans of podcasts like the Doughboys, Cinephobe, Comedy Bang Bang and All Fantasy Everything will be right at home with Judging Judy. It’s rapid pace comedy paired with social commentary based on the cultural icon, Judy Shendlin.

We start with a quick recap of what was going on in the world back when the episode originally aired in 1996: think baseball, the children’s show Arthur and Australian rules football. Then we take a detour to the front page of a newspaper before delving into what was ruling the box office on that day(hint: it starred Will Smith and was about blowing stuff up).

Then, we do a play-by-play of the case. It’s a complicated story and a sad situation for everyone involved; it’s up to Judy to comb through the accusations both the plaintiff and the defendant offer up. Suffice to say, she’s not too happy that the couple’s kids were involved in this nonsense. She’s also not too happy about the drug use.

After all that, it’s our turn to do a little judging. If Judy did her job, if she acted justly, she’s innocent. However, if not, she’s guilty. Those are the rules!

Judging Judy isn’t just a comedy: it’s also an exploration of the time and place that Judy occupied during her 25+ years on TV. Her show was a reflection of our society, its people, its mores and its systems of judgement. Judging Judy, while going for laughs, carefully examines and critiques the institution that Judge Judy was and the impact it had on all of us.
Listen to Judging Judy, the comedy podcast all other comedy podcasts will be measured against!
