Prayer: Joy Is Foundational
(Psalm 94:18–19, NLT)
This devotional explores how God’s unfailing love and comfort meet us right in the middle of our slipping, doubting, and fearing. Psalm 94:18–19 doesn’t promise that we will never stumble; instead, it shows that when we do slip and cry out, the Lord Himself supports us. Our troubles, storms, and struggles are not wasted—God allows us to walk through them so we can grow, gain wisdom, and deepen our relationship with Him.
When doubt fills our minds and anxiety rises, God’s comfort brings renewed hope and cheer. We don’t deny our human emotions—fear, worry, and confusion—but we refuse to be ruled by them. The reason we can stand, even when everything around us is shaking, is because of the joy of the Lord within us.
Joy is not the same as happiness. Happiness depends on what’s happening; joy depends on who God is. Joy is love in the midst of hate, grace in the midst of attack, peace in the midst of the storm, courage in the midst of fear, and confidence in the midst of doubt. This joy, rooted in God’s presence and promises, becomes the foundation that keeps us from falling, even when we slip.
