A cocky AI expert discovers love is just an obsession for
beginners. Author Martin Clark is from south-west Scotland and writes
supernatural noir novellas. More of his work is available on Eggplant

future, where software can simulate, even replicate, the responses of
the deceased. The creator of one such "ghost in the machine" wants to
make it both sentient and self-aware. This story first appeared in the
