Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary Episode 78

Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, having originally set up by Olive Lomas after saving a donkey named Maude from slaughter; Bleakholt is now one of the largest animal sanctuaries of it’s kind in the North West.

Since moving to Edenfield in 1957; just a few miles outside of Ramsbottom, Bleakholt has grown and now boasts a 55 acre site on which it provides care for over 450 animals.

Whilst I was there I saw chickens, goats, pigs, horses, rabbits and naturally dogs amongst them.

I caught up with one of the dog walkers Chris Taylor to find out a bit more about Bleakholt itself and what is coming up for them.

img_20161030_142051Chris has been walking dogs at Bleakholt since 2003 wanting something cheap to do after her partner died. She’s got a fantastic amount of passion and energy for Bleakholt and the dogs there. One of the concerns for her was that when she retired she didn’t want to be sat around with nothing to do, that’s not been a problem with Bleakholt and the dogs providing a happy distraction for Chris.

After this interview, if you are thinking about the possibility of walking a dog or two for Bleakholt, check out their website. Here is more information on Dog Walking at Bleakholt.

There’s loads of animals at Bleakholt, check out some of the ones that I bumped into here.
