Grant Arms Hotel

This week on This is Rammy, I chatted with with Charlotte, owner and resident of The Grant Arms Hotel.

The Grant is one of the most noticeable buildings in Ramsbottom. Originally called “Top Oth Brow”, once a private house, it was then bought by the Grant family who renamed it to Grant Lodge.

In 1828 the house became a hotel, even undergoing a facelift in 1852 where a clock was added to the front of the building and adorned with that date.

In May of this year, The Hotel Inspector aired an episode which featured Charlotte, her family and The Grant Arms Hotel. When I asked Charlotte about The Hotel Inspector, she stated she was generally happy with the portrayal that was given of herself and The Grant Arms Hotel, however she didn’t make a friend in Alex Polizzi.

When I asked Charlotte what was wrong with Alex, she said that she felt that Alex Polizzi was “just not a nice person.” and was “very two faced.”

Charlotte’s main issue was that she felt Alex and the program were there to help her, but didn’t feel that she got the support she was expecting from the program, Alex even saying one thing to Charlotte off camera, and either omitting to say that or saying something entirely different on camera.

The Hotel Inspector was filmed back in September, and aired on 14th May 2015.

Naturally, The Hotel Inspector have their own agenda, they are out to make a program and that will always be their focus. Despite this, I feel that Charlotte could do with more support from the community, however I do feel that Charlotte needs to offer out an olive branch to those groups in the community, in what form, I don’t know. Maybe free use of a room for a meeting?

When asked if The Grant Arms was a member of the Ramsbottom Business Group Charlotte responded that they weren’t, which I feel is a mistake. The Grant Arms Hotel is one of the few businesses in close proximity to Bridge Street that isn’t a member of the Business Group. The fee is just £40 per year. Not only would it show willing to integrate, but it would also potentially bring in some suggestions from other members and potentially allow another venue for local events.
