It’s been bitterly cold this week with the UK taking on the force of the “Beast from the East” providing consistent snow fall causing traffic problems as well as several events to be cancelled including, The Summerseat Players had to cancel their MacBeth Reading and Irwell Works Brewery have had to cancel their Folk and Americana night.
One person who’ll be hoping the weather here in Ramsbottom is as cold as it gets for her is Fiona Botham of popular Ramsbottom restaurants Baratxuri and Levanter as reported recently in The Bury Times.
Fiona and the team of 21 other people from the restaurant business will be trekking Nepal in aid of Action Against Hunger for their Nepal Trek 2018 from April 24th to May the 4th 2018. They hope to raise £110,000 and each team member will be aiming to raise at least £5000 to go towards this total.
Action Against Hunger is a world charity working to carry out innovative, lifesaving programmes in nutrition, food security, water, sanitation and hygiene.
Fiona states on her bio for the trek the she “feeds lovely people all week in our restaurants in Ramsbottom & at home tell our 4 young children all the time, “eat up”,”don’t waste food”, & remind them how lucky they are compared to other children & families around the world”. Fiona goes on to say that she is putting her very scared feet where her mouth is to help raise awareness & funds to help this amazing charity.
As of the 28th of February when I’m recording this, Fiona currently has £421 in her pot, if you’d like to donate you can do so at the link below.

Well there was some drama near Ramsbottom on Sunday the 25th of February as a VW Beetle spontaneously burst into flames causing its driver to flee the scene for as yet unknown circumstances. The car was driving down Bolton Road West just past the Hare and Hounds when it was pulled over by the driver who then hot footed it away leaving the car to set alite.
Ramsbottom Fire Crew were on the scene in just a few minutes and were easily able to get the blaze under control. What remained of the car was a total wreck. Police have confirmed that the incident is being investigated.

One of the things I like to do to promote our town of Ramsbottom, apart from the podcast and blog is to contribute to other sites. One of those contributions I do is to Photos on Google Maps. I got a notification from Google tonight telling me that the photos I’ve submitted have now been viewed over 300,000 times. That’s a surprising amount of coverage and free publicity for our town.
It’s easy to do too, often, if I’m taking a photo for myself, or social media or the site, I’ll also submit it to Google Maps, in fact my phone usually asks if I want to.
This helps to provide potential visitors with a view into what’s on offer in our local establishments. As well as this, I’m a Google Local Guide contributor, here’s my stats as of right now:
I’m not just blowing my horn here, you can help too. The next time you take a cheeky photo whilst in one of our local cafes or restaurants, consider putting it onto Google Maps, or maybe sign up to be a Google Local Guide, lord knows our area needs it. I’ve lost count the amount of times I’ve told Google that Little Craft Cafe is no longer on Bolton Road West.
