Not a week goes by in Ramsbottom without something amazing to talk about, this week we had the fantastic Rammy Rocks Festival held in Nuttall Park in aid of various charities. I’ve mentioned Rammy Rocks before, the last episode in fact where they were hosting a stall at the Chocolate Festival to get everyone involved.
The first Rammy Rocks Festival event was held on the 31st of March 2018 in Nuttall Park. My family and I wandered down at around half past 10, the event having started at 10 was already getting busy.
To give you some background on the whole Rammy Rocks thing, if you’ve not heard of it. The whole premise behind this group and many others online are to get children to do craft and get outdoors. That’s what they call in the trade as a one two punch. Not only are you getting them away from the screens to do some crafting, but in order to realise the full potential of that craft they have to get outside and hide it, and also look for others who have done the same too.
The steps from the Facebook group state:
– find some stones
– paint them however you like (acrylic paint works best)
– varnish them – (stops the paint from running)
– put f/b Rammyrocks on the back so people know where to post their finds
– helpful if you post where you’ve hidden them but you don’t have to
– if you find one – please post so people know
– either keep it or re-hide
– join in and paint some of your ownYou don’t have to be artistic – paint anything you want – it’s not about who does the best but about taking part and letting the kids have fun (as well as us adults – it’s addictive!)
First Rammy Rocks Festival A Great Success
We got to the event and queued up, paid our £3 which got us a Rammyrocksearch sheet with 9 clues and a rock to paint. In addition we could buy tickets for the tombola where there were LOADS of excellently painted rocks by the very talented volunteers at Rammy Rocks HQ, you could also guess the weight of the rock and there were loads of cakes for sale in Nuttall Park Ranger Base.
The event was excellently organised and my family very much enjoyed searching for the rocks, not only providing some welcome exercise but also the ability to explore parts of Nuttall Park you might not often visit.
The best bit of all was that from the event £1750 was raised for charity! £750 went to Bury Hospice, £400 to Tyler Longden and the Friends of Nuttall Park received a much needed £600.
Well done to all involved (you know who you are), it was a very well put together affair, I hope you get some much needed rest.
The ever popular Beverley Macca, owner of Bev’s Barbers in Ramsbottom has decided to hang up her scissors and Bev’s Barbers closed its doors for the final time this Saturday.
Bev had recently had two operations on a precancerous condition and speaking to Bury Times Bev said:
I have got a lot of things ongoing and I don’t need the stress of running a business when I’m concentrating on getting better… I will continue with the laundry downstairs because I’m not as restricted doing that and can work at my own pace around hospital appointments.
I’d like to wish Bev good health and hope that she gets better soon. My son and I will miss coming to your barbers to get our mops cut.
On a Facebook group this month a lady named Jackie Griffiths posted a message asking if anyone would like to start a litter picking group. Jackie is retired and mentioned she often goes out during the day and has done this before to other areas of Ramsbottom.
No sooner had she posted that than she created the Facebook Group Litter Picking Ramsbottom where the first picking event was organised for the 28th of March in Nuttall Park. A total of 2 hours were spent by many volunteers who by picking litter collected in over 20 bags of litter from our park.
The next litter picking event is scheduled for Saturday April the 7th and will be around Church Fields which is next to St Andrews Church. This is often a place where litter is deposited by the wind and people. If you are able to spare any time, meet outside St Andrews Church at 10am where you can also park. Please wear strong gloves, sturdy boots and a warm coat.
