It’s that time of year again where damn fools try their best to get to the top of a big hill in as fast a time as possible. You’ve guessed it, it’s the Rake Hill Climb.
This week I caught up with Lancashire Road Club press officer Ian McKinley to find out a bit more about the race and their involvement with it.
The Rake Hill Climb takes place each year, this year will be the 87th event of which originally started out to simply see how far up The Rake you could get without falling off. However once people started to do this more and more, it was turned into an actual race.
Please remember this is a podcast episode so hit play above to listen to the full interview.
One of the subjects we touched on in this interview was about getting more diversity in cycling as it is a male dominated sport. Once the sign closed for this year’s race Ian got in touch:
Entry closed last night and we have 104 riders, of which 14 are female….an improvement of 466% on last year!
Long may that continue as there is no reason why women shouldn’tbe encouraged to get involved more. As Ian said in the interview, the prize money is now the same for men and women in their races. This should go some way to righting this imbalance.
Ramsbottom United News:There have been a number of matches since I last spoke to you, and sadly as I record this our unbeaten home record (in the league) came to an end when we suffered a 3-1 loss to Colwyn Bay where the only goal for Ramsbottom was scored by Bradley Roscoe.
Onwards and upwards, the next match to be played is on Saturday the 1st of October where we are away to Glossop North End. Kick off is at 3pm, good luck to the lads in that match, let’s bring home a win.
