Ramsbottom Brewery 1940s Weekend
Thanks to AJ Read on Twitter for use of the photo

We’ve had some lovely weather so far in Ramsbottom for this year’s 1940’s weekend, the highlight of which was the flyover by the Spitfire.

Not only is it 1940s weekend but it’s also half term next week and with that in mind I’ve decided to throw together some options if you’re stuck for ideas with the family this week. If you have no responsibility for any children, you can pretty much do what you want anyway so make your own list.

It would be great to see your photos if you do manage to do any of these things. This is Rammy is the major social media networks so sharing them to This is Rammy on Twitter or Facebook would get them seen by me. I love getting suggestions from you too so if you have any other things you like to do over half term I’d love to hear them.

Another thing that has happened this week is that the This is Rammy events page has had a bit of a cash injection in the form of a new feature I purchased. You will now find events from Facebook in there, the benefit being that you don’t actually need to have a Facebook account to see what’s going on.

As mentioned, I’ve put together a list of things to do, or at least ideas for things that you can do around Ramsbottom this half term:

Explore your surroundings:

There is nothing better than an adventure and we’re very lucky in Ramsbottom that we’ve got nature right on our doorstep. If your children are anything like mine, they’ll love getting out and exploring. Especially when they get to make the decisions about which direction to go, even if you do end up lost.

Family Baking Time:

My son loves cooking, given the option of helping in the kitchen he’ll jump at it every time. It doesn’t have to be complicated, for example in the photo we were making a pizza at the time which took about 10 minutes of preparation time before it went into the oven and he loved it.

Make and fly your very own kite:

It will soon be the Kite Flying event on Holcombe Hill, so why not on the run up to that have a go yourself at making a kite. My son and I did recently and we still have the kite, surprisingly it flew really well, given I was just guessing I’m as surprised as you are.

Go to the Swimming Baths:

We’ve got a pretty good pool right on our doorstep, I remember when I was growing up in Eccles that getting to the local pool was quite a distance and it was nowhere near as warm as our pool is in Rammy. Check out the website for the swimming pool to see the times and if there are any events going on that you can take part in. Or just turn up and splash around, but remember no bombing!

Feed the ducks:

It’s no secret that me and my son like to get out and feed the ducks from time to time, and if you check out this page here you’ll find not only what to feed them but where to feed them too. Although the Wharf area can be hit and miss in all honesty. If your children are a little older than mine, this might not appeal too much, but try them and see.

Visit the Library:

Our Library in Ramsbottom is fantastic, not only can you borrow books, as you’d expect, you can also borrow Audiobooks, DVDs, take part in Yoga, buy locally made things from the Craft shop, visit the Heritage Gallery, attend Lego Group’s, electronics, computers and lots; lots more.

Thank you to everyone who has recently followed or liked the social media accounts for This is Rammy, including Holly Jackson, John Robinson, Brenda Jones, Catherine Holt, Neil Harris, Joanne Murphy to name just a few.
