The Greatest Miracle Matthew 1:21-25 December 18, 2022
In Biblical times, names were chosen for a reason, to give definition and direction to the child. People often lived up to their names.
Jacob-trickster
David-beloved
Abraham-Father of a multitude
Moses-drawn out
The Angel of the Lord commanded Joseph to name the child, Jesus. The name, Jesus, describes in detail who He is and what He was coming to do.
1. His name declares His identity.
Jesus-Jehovah is Salvation Isaiah 7:14
God implanted His DNA in Mary.
Jesus was fully human and fully God.
2. His name declares His intentions. Matthew 1:21
His mission was and is to SAVE.
Save-keep safe, to recuse from danger or destruction
His primary purpose in coming was to save a sin sick world.
3. His name declares His impoverishment.
He was a humble servant, born in a manger.
He understood poverty, weariness, hunger, rejection, loneliness, temptation and He endured them all without sin! Hebrews 4:15-16
4. His name declares His individuality. Matthew 1:23
Immanuel-God with us!
Since God is with us-amazing things happen in our lives!
