A: Help! Are you a doctor? My poor little Frankie has stopped breathing! Oh my gosh, Help me! I tried to perform CPR, but I just don’t know if I could get any air into his lungs! Oh, Frankie!
B: Ellen, get him hooked up to a monitor! Someone page Dr.Howser. Get the patient to hold still, I can’t get a pulse! Okay, he’s on the monitor. His BP is falling! He’s flat lining!

CPR【心肺复苏术】short for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. 即我们常说的“心肺复苏术”的缩写, 包括进行人工呼吸和体外心脏按压。Cardi是“心”的词根，所以cardio意思一定与“心脏”有关, pulmonary是肺部的，resuscitation意思是复苏，所以合起来就是心肺复苏术。不过日常我们不用记得这么复杂，知道CPR即可。
注意，给某人做CPR用的动词是perform。
hook up 【连接】when we’re talking about hooking sth up, we’re usually talking about electronic. 一般讲到hook up的时候，通常是与电子设备相关，意思是“把 (计算机或其他电子设备) 与 (类似机器或电源) 连接起来”，比如：
>> I finally got a Nintendo Wii(任天堂游戏机) ,come on, help me hook it up to the TV. 我终于买到了任天堂游戏机了，来吧，帮我把它连到电视上。
>> I don’t know how to hook up this new DVD player, can you help me? 我不知道这个新的DVD播放器要怎么连，你能帮帮我吗？
>> I just hooked up my new HDTV,wanna come over and watch a movie? 我刚接上我的新高清电视，要不要过来看电影？
page【（在公共传呼系统上）呼叫】call out somebody's nameover a P.A. system.我们熟知page作为名词的意思是“页，面”，但是它其实也可以作为动词使用，page sb的意思就是“（在公共传呼系统上）呼叫某人”，一般是用类似传呼机的东西呼叫某人。
hold still【不要动】stop moving. hold和keep类似，表示“维持某种状态”，still是静止的，故hold still就是让某人“不要动”，看电视剧时应该也会看到警察对可疑的人物说hold still。
>> If you don’t hold still, I can’t see if you have something in your eyes. 如果你不保持静止的话，我没法看清你眼睛里是不是有东西。
>> Hold still while she cuts your hair, or else she might make a mistake. 她给你剪头发时别乱动，否则她可能会伤到你。
>> Hold still, you have a beetle on your back. 别动，你的背上有只甲虫。
BP 【血压】it’s short for blood pressure. “血压”（blood pressure）的缩写，在医院很常用，所以医生很可能就会简短的说成BP。
flat line【死亡】作为名词很容易理解，就是一条“平的线条”，这里作为动词来使用，也可以写成flatline，在医学用语里面表示“死亡”，因为如果一个人死了，那么他的心脑电图就会呈平线，所以sb’s flat lining，某人的心脑电图正有越来越呈平线的趋势，就是代指这个人“快死了”。当然这个说法由于和心脑电图等相关，所以只在医院这种地方比较常见，日常生活中我们是不会这样说的。
acute respiratory failure【急性呼吸衰竭】it’s serious, you stop breathing, if you’re going to acute respiratory failure, the doctor or somebody else has to perform CPR. Acute用在疾病时的意思是“急性的”， respiratory的意思是“呼吸的”， failure是“失败，衰竭”，所以合起来就是“急性呼吸衰竭”，这时候就需要做CRP了。
intubate【插管】it’s a medical procedure, when patients can’t breathe properly, sometimes doctor takes a long tube and put it into their mouth, and down their pipes so that they can breathe better. 一个医学治疗的常用方法，百度百科是这样解释的：气管插管是将一特制的气管内导管通过口腔或鼻腔，经声门置入气管或支气管内的方法，为呼吸道通畅、通气供氧、呼吸道吸引等提供最佳条件。
bag sb.【挤压气囊把空气送进呼吸管里】there’s a bag attach to the intubation tube, and you squeeze it to put the air through the tube to the lungs.在插管的另一边会附有一个气囊（bag），你需要挤压他来产生气体，再经由插管送入肺部。这个挤压的动作就被医生简短的称为bag，有点名词动词化的感觉，后面的sb就是你要治疗的对象。它可以算是一个医学上的俚语（Medical slang）, 在电视剧中医疗相关的部分你可能会经常听到，所以了解一下吧~
stabilize【（使）稳定】when the doctor stabilize a patient, they take that patient out of danger. Stable的意思是“稳定的”，stabilize是其动词形式，表示“使…稳定”。
out of the woods【脱离险境，脱离困境】when someone is out of the woods, he’s free from danger, he’s safe. 这可不是“逃离森林”，而是“脱离困境，险境”的意思。
critical condition【（病的）危险状态】critical的意思是“危急的”，condition表示“状态”，合起来就是“危急状况”。
intensive care【重症监护室】可能它的缩写形式比较常见，ICU（Intensive Care Unit)）即重症监护室。
