Iceland declared itself a republic on 17 June 1944.

The Danish–Icelandic Act of Union, signed by both the Iceland and Denmark in 1918, which recognized Iceland as a fully independent and sovereign state who was associated to Denmark in a personal union.
由冰岛和丹麦于1918年签署的《丹麦-冰岛联盟法》，承认冰岛是一个完全独立的主权国家。冰岛也曾与丹麦建立共主邦联关系。
Iceland assumed control over its own foreign affairs and moved toward complete independence from Denmark who was occupied by the German forces during the WWII.
