It was the first day of school yesterday. Several new education policies have come to test under the “double reduction” crackdown.
For students, the Regulations on the Protection of Schools for Minors calls for the prevention of sexual assault and bullying, which also prohibit the publication of students' test scores and rankings to protect students' self-esteem and privacy.
In terms of schools, first and second graders will start school with zero written tests or homework. As for teachers, after-school services should fully cover all primary and secondary schools and teachers can practice "flexible commuting" and receive subsidies for after-school services.
The nationwide "double reduction" policy is aiming to relieve students of the burden of excessive homework and reduce the need for after-school tutoring. It’s still too early to tell if it will work as hoped, but definitely a fresh start for everyone.

今年开学不一般，是“双减”落地的首日，多项政策和法例开始执行。
学生方面，《未成年人学校保护规定》要求保护未成年人远离性侵害和欺凌，禁止公开学生的考试成绩与排名，保护学生自尊心和隐私等。
在学校方面，《关于加强义务教育学校考试管理的通知》、《关于加强义务教育学校作业管理的通知》也从昨日起实行。两份文件明确提出小学一二年级不进行纸笔考试，不布置书面家庭作业，小学其他年级每天书面作业完成时间平均不超过60分钟；初中不超过90分钟。
而在教师方面，教育部要求，新学期要实现课后服务校校开展全覆盖、保障时间“5+2”，教师可实行“弹性上下班”，对参加课后服务的教师给予相应补助。
目前，政策的成效尚未可知，但相信这些政策标志着国家推动教育走向优质素质教育的决心。期待双减政策带来教育行业和学校涅槃前的重生，积极求变，让教育真正回归本质。
The thrilling anti-gang TV series Crime Crackdown finally welcomed its finale Tuesday night on streaming platform Tencent Video. Adapted from real-life events, the drama chronicles the investigation and capture of local gangs and corrupted government officials by the national anti-gang supervising group.
The TV sensation has become a national phenomenon as it garnered over 3.7 billion views since its debut a month ago. Although the show has ended, the controversies surrounding the video streaming giant continue to simmer. The platform has drew strong criticism as it asks paid customers for an extra 3 yuan to unlock each episode and had to buy them in sequence. Tencent Video responded yesterday that it would adjust the rules after Shanghai Consumer Council said the company is suspected of bundling in late August.
The show also sparked a legal dispute between Tencent and its rival Tiktok. Two weeks ago, the video platform sued Tiktok for violating copyright regulations when it circulated clips of Crime Crackdown, urging the short-video platform to delete the clips and requesting compensation of 100 million yuan. Tiktok then deleted over 8000 clips of the show, after it was slashed a 600-thousand-yuan fine to Tencent in a separate copyright verdict.

取材自真实案件的网剧《扫黑风暴》成为大热，从8月9日在腾讯视频上线以来，已突破37亿播放量。《扫黑风暴》汇集了老戏骨与新生代明星，剧集诞生时，正值国家“扫黑除恶”行动，剧中也包含打击有组织和帮派犯罪活动的真实案件。
但《扫黑风暴》不止为腾讯视频带来了流量，也因“超前点播”的收费规则饱受诟病。观众不仅每解锁一集剧集，需要支付3元，还只能按顺序购买。8月26日，上海市消保委发文，认为腾讯视频这一规则涉及捆绑销售。平台昨天做出回应，称将调整超前点播规则。
《扫黑风暴》也在腾讯与抖音之间掀起了又一场“风暴”。两周前，腾讯将抖音告上法庭，要求其删除未经授权的《扫黑风暴》片段，并索赔一亿元。之后，抖音删除了8000多条《扫黑风暴》的剪辑。此前不久，腾讯与抖音之间的另一场法律纠纷刚产生判决，抖音因传播《王者荣耀》相关的侵权内容，被判60万元罚款。

Local authorities need to better regulate the disclosure of information about the stock of land available for residential use as China increases supervision over the real estate market. The specific location, area and the developer of each residential land project must be made public and updated at least quarterly, the Ministry of Natural Resources of China said on Wednesday.

Shares of China Evergrande Group fell 3.55 percent today after the heavily-indebted real estate giant reported a drop in first-half earnings. Due to the poor performance of Evergrande’s property business, first-half net profit slumped 29 percent from a year ago to 10.5 billion yuan, and revenue fell 16.5 percent to 222.7 billion yuan, the firm’s earnings report showed on Tuesday.
8月31日，中国恒大发布2021年上半年财报，营收与股价双降，今日股价又跌3.55%。根据财报，恒大上半年净利润105亿元，同比下降29%；营收2227亿元，同比下降16.5%。

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Thursday. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index edged up 0.84 percent, at 3597 points. And the Hang Seng Index closed 0.2 percent higher at 26079 points. However, the Shenzhen Component Index slid 0.26 percent to 14277 points.
