The 2021 World Internet Conference (WIC) Wuzhen Summit kicked off on Sunday, gathering nearly 2000 people from over 80 countries and regions to share wisdom on building a digital civilization via online and offline events.
China is willing to work with other countries to make the digital civilization benefit people of all countries and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, President Xi Jinping said in a congratulatory letter to the summit.
The digital economy in China reached 39.2 trillion yuan (about $6.07 trillion) in 2020, accounting for 38.6 percent of the country's GDPwith a yearly growth of 9.7 percent, according to the annual Blue Book for WIC. Meanwhile, China has built the world's largest standalone 5G network with over 70 percent of the world's total number of 5G base stations.
This year, some of the biggest names in China’s tech industry made an appearance at the summit to pledge support for the country’s “common prosperity” and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), including Alibaba, Xiaomi and 360.
In his opening speech delivered over video, Chinese Vice-Premier Liu He, emphasised the importance of supporting innovations of entrepreneurs and encouraging smaller businesses, saying the country would support the development of the internet and digital economy.
These themes were echoed by tech titans vowing to do their part. Alibaba Group’s CEO Daniel Zhang said platform companies should stand up to help solve top concerns from the public and the government regarding corporate management, user privacy protections and data security.

本届大会上发布的《中国互联网发展报告2021》指出，2020年中国数字经济规模达到39.2万亿元，占GDP比重达38.6%，保持9.7%的高位增长速度，成为稳定经济增长的关键动力。报告称，截至2021年6月，中国已拥有96.1万个5G基站，占全球5G基站总数的70%以上，并实现了地级及以上所有城市的全覆盖。
中共中央政治局委员、国务院副总理刘鹤以视频方式出席，宣读习近平主席贺信并致辞。中国宏观经济总体稳定，有经验和能力管控风险，发展前景十分光明，将坚定不移推动改革开放和高质量发展，大力加强新型基础设施建设，推动软件产业发展，持续完善市场化、法治化、国际化营商环境，扩大高水平对外开放，坚持“两个毫不动摇”，支持民营经济健康发展，支持企业家创新创业，支持互联网和数字经济健康发展。
今年中外互联网的大咖云集乌镇，小米科技创始人雷军、阿里董事局主席张勇、特斯拉CEO马斯克等大佬都分享了观点。阿里巴巴董事会主席兼首席执行官张勇在会上宣布了阿里巴巴围绕社会责任制定的两大全新战略——ESG和助力共同富裕，并称平台经济的最大价值在于成就他人的同时自身也获得健康成长，只有更普惠、更公平、更规范、更包容，让更多的人和中小企业参与其中，平台经济才会真正和持续地发展好。

The 2021 Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Exchange Conference and the Startup Alliance was launched in Guangzhou last Friday. The alliance aims to facilitate the sharing of information, experience, and resource for win-win development of youth innovation and entrepreneurship bases.

China’s retail sales of consumer goods are expected to hit 44 trillion yuan in 2021, an increase of about 12.5 percent from last year and 8 percent from 2019, said Wang Bin, an official with the Ministry of Commerce, at a press conference on Sunday.

China has established a central government-controlled electricity equipment company through a merger, involving related companies of State Grid Corporation of China and power engineering company China XD Group, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) said on Saturday.

Chinese cryptocurrency exchange Huobi Global stopped taking new customers from the Chinese mainland on Friday and would end contracts with clients in the region by the end of 2021, the exchange said in a statement on Saturday, to comply with local regulations. Today, share of the Hong Kong-traded company sank 30 percent intraday before closing down 21.5 percent.

China's central bank conducted 100 billion yuan of reverse repos to maintain liquidity in the banking system for the second consecutive day on Monday. China has conducted 320 billion yuan of reverse repos last week, the biggest since January 22.
为维护银行体系流动性合理充裕，中国人民银行连续两日开展1000亿元逆回购操作。上周逆回购口径净投放3200亿元，为1月22日当周以来最大。

Chinese stocks closed mixed on Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 0.84 percent, at 3582 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.09 percent lower at 14344 points. The Hang Seng Index closed 0.07 percent higher to stand at 24208 points.
