The region-wide Stoxx Europe 600 index edged down 0.1 per cent while Paris’s CAC 40 fell 0.3 per cent and Lon­don’s FTSE 100 fin­ished down 0.2 per cent.

Yields on 10-year Ger­man Bunds, a regional bench­mark, rose 4 basis points to 2.58 per cent as the debt was sold.

Investors also con­tin­ued to react to Fri­day’s fig­ures show­ing that US unem­ploy­ment rose to an 18-month high, put­ting pres­sure on the US Fed­eral Reserve to stop rais­ing interest rates.

The US Dol­lar index, which meas­ures the cur­rency against a bas­ket of six peers and tends to weaken when investors expect lower rates, retreated 0.2 per cent.
