The yield on the benchmark 10-year gilt was 3 basis pointshigher at 3.9 per cent by late afternoon in London trading. The 30-year yieldslipped 4bp to 3.95 per cent, reflecting a small rise in price.
Sterling held on to its gains against the dollar to trade0.4 per cent higher on the day at $1.1260.
Wall Street stocks rose yesterday with the S&P 500 up0.2 per cent and the Nasdaq Composite adding 0.7 per cent by mid-session in NewYork.
Those gains came as shares in IBM rose more than 4 per centafter the tech group late on Wednesday posted better than expectedthird-quarter earnings and forecast full-year revenue growth above its previousguidance.
Shares in giants including Apple, Alphabet and Microsoftalso advanced, up between 1 and 2 per cent, helping to mitigate a drop of morethan 4 per cent for Tesla after revenues fell short of expectations for themost recent quarter.
Across the Atlantic, the pan-regional Europe Stoxx 600 indexrose 0.3 per cent.
