Global stocks slipped yesterday ...

Wall Street’s benchmark S&P 500 lost 0.9 per cent, chipping at the index’s more than 3 per cent rise over the past month, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 0.8 per cent.

Across the Atlantic, the pan-regional Stoxx Europe 600 slid 0.6 per cent and London’s FTSE 100 dropped 0.2 per cent.

Oil prices had stabilised by late afternoon in London with Brent crude, the international benchmark, having fallen nearly 3 per cent earlier in the day.

The US marker West Texas Intermediate added 0.7 per cent, erasing an earlier 1.8 per cent decline.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng China Enterprises index dropped as much as 4.5 per cent before pulling back to shed 1.6 per cent.

The decline on China’s CSI 300 index of Shanghai- and Shenzhen-listed shares was as great as 2.8 per cent before it was trimmed to just over 1 per cent.
