We long for a hero to rescue us. This section of John comes right at the time that Israel celebrated their hero, Judas Maccabaeus, who rescued them from Syria.
Jesus is God's last Action-Hero in that He is God's true Judge, His ultimate Representative, and His Final Mediator. And it's His relationship with the Father that solidifies this truth of His identity.
