067: "Common misconceptions on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy" with Alexander Faubel & Alistair Langer
There is no other therapeutic intervention in the world that even comes close to achieving the same results in treating PTSD as MDMA-assisted psychotherapy. Previous models (psychotropic drugs + therapy) for PTSD achieve a 30% improvement rate in patients, whereas current studies of MDMA therapies show an almost 70% cure rate. These facts are a remarkable recommendation for a medicine that has never been widely available to humans and can be used very efficiently to alleviate mental health suffering. The market for psychedelics will most likely grow extremely fast in the next few years and there will be mo...

Mindfulness seems to be everywhere these days. But it’s not often that I see mindfulness connected to politics. #12 - Mindfulness and healing, with Jamie Bristow
I want to be very critical towards the end. From my point of view - with surveillance state capitalism going haywire in all directions - isn’t it a nice thing to say “more mindfulness” please and not to question the underlying extractive from all sides deep code structures. Put the other way: As we see with the relationship (and the great book) “Zen and War”, mindfulness itself is an agnostic tool, or intervention, or capability, and can also be abused, or twisted to serve just more efficiency and more extraction. I’m curious about you riffing off of that.

#12 - The halo effect of being mindful, with Jamie Bristow
Similarly, change at collective, organisational and systems levels requires more time and investment in research and policy. While thousands of trials demonstrate the effectiveness of mindfulness and compassion interventions in a clinical context, studies that examine direct causation of prosocial outcomes are at an early stage. For instance, while positive relationships between mindfulness and sustainable consumption can be demonstrated, it cannot yet be assumed that mindfulness leads directly and causally to sustainable consumption behaviour. However, evidence suggests that mindfulness can create preconditions for such changes.

Mindfulness seems to be everywhere these days. But it’s not often that I see mindfulness connected to politics. Which is exactly what Jamie is doing for many years. Especially in times of the many divides and the multi-crises we find ourselves in, bridging wisdom traditions and weaving unlikely alliances is more important than ever. While we don’t suggest that mindfulness and compassion are sufficient on their own to effect radical change, we argue that these innate human capacities are fundamental to conscious connection: at all times, and particularly in meeting the many dimensions of the clim...

The current model of institutionalized representative parliamentary democracy is broken. Voting cycles prevent politicians from truly thinking and acting for the long term. Party politics aggravate the many existing divides in our societies. There has been a class emerging of professional politicians which all too often do not represent the electorate. And political parties as institutions themselves are eroding as they are highly biased towards the older generations in power, creating multiple gridlock effects for those that will have to live with the world we hand over in the next decades.
