Today's episode is a quickie where we finish discussing the WHO analgesic ladder by covering step 3, which is all about opioids. We talk about the mechanism of action and main side effects of opioids. We also discuss the hydromorphone:oxycodone:morphine potency equivalencies being approximately 10:5:2, and a typical initial dose of hydromorphone being about 2-4mg PO q4h.
