Be Perfect as Jesus is Perfect
What does Jesus mean that we should be perfect, as Jesus is perfect? Gretchen Ronnevik and Katie Koplin look at the context of the Sermon on the Mount, in Matthew 5 where this passage is found. Curiously, the command to be perfect comes right after the command to love your enemies. We often think that being righteousness as repelling sin, and repelling sinners, when the righteousness of Christ is goodness and holiness running toward sin and sinners to heal them. We also must define perfect correctly, as it means "complete" in this context. Another translation could...

They talk about running around everywhere, what's going on with our families, and what our families do when we are running everywhere. They talk about harvest time, waiting in the drive thru, grad school, and living through a season where you can't finish a thought.

Preaching The Text
Mark 12:38-44 – Pentecost 25 (B)
On this episode of Preaching the Text, John Hoyum and Steve Paulson discuss the story of the widow's offering from Mark's gospel. Here we see Jesus observing a woman who gives all that she has, which isn't much, into the temple offering plate. Usually this story is taken as an encouragement to give as much as you can. But we see here that what God requires is absolutely everything, including our very lives. But in death, there is also resurrection – since Christ has gone before us, giving all he has and being raised again on the third day.

Winning and Losing Political Elections
High stakes and emotions regarding national politics produce situations Christians must meaningfully and thoughtfully navigate. Christians are embodied and specifically located creatures with vocations that demand political conciseness and often involvement. Yet these political situations and outcomes are not the object or sum of the faith. This episode explores the consequences of winning and losing elections and how Christian involvement and thought distinguish between faith and vocation so that we do not trust in princes but in Christ while faithfully serving our neighbors.
