What happened to Britney Spears and the Millennial Dream?
We all know the saga of Britney Spears. Her meteoric rise, followed by a grim downfall and a troubling conservatorship. Her story captured a generation. But what does it say about America and ourselves? Sam reflects on it all with journalists Andrea Domanick and Jeff Weiss. The Culture Journalist
Localize it, with Jeff Weiss
Los Angeles native Jeff Weiss is no stranger to the heartbreak of watching the newspaper the shaped your understanding of the city where you grew up, and the people and institutions within it that are worth fighting for, become a shell of its former self. Three years ago, when a group of Republican-donor investors purchased the LA Weekly and laid off almost the entirety of its editorial staff, the writer and editor was so rattled by the gutting of his favorite alternative weekly that he organized a boycott of the publication. Then he teamed up with a group of...

So you're a laid-off journalist
Back in April, The New York Times reported that an estimated 36,000 U.S. media workers had been laid off or furloughed—or taken pay cuts—in the first month of the pandemic alone. The VICE Guide to Right Now
The Dollars and Desperation Silencing #MeToo in Music
In light of the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements, NOISEY has taken a close look at sexual harassment and misconduct in the music industry. Music journalist Andrea Domanick spoke to more than two dozen women about their experiences in the industry. They are artists and publicists, assistants and executives, spanning both the major-label and independent music worlds, and across multiple genres. Some have publicly come forward with accusations, while many spoke anonymously. But together, their collective accounts indicate how deeply embedded sexual harassment is in the music industry, and how culture and labor conditions create a perfect storm for abuse.
