Scott Bradlee and Kyla Scanlon: Nostalgia and Nuance (Just Press Record LIVE! at Epsilon Connect)
BE MORE MID. No, seriously. Or at least come listen to this discussion of why the nuance and nostalgia around mid-ness might just save the world. Scott Bradlee is kind of a professional nostalgia pusher. Postmodern Jukebox has been flipping songs into older styles and genres for multi-generational audiences for over 10 years now. Their tagline is “Todays Hits Yesterday.” It works, in that the band can can sell out rooms all over the world, and - with a cool 6.25 million YouTube followers - they’re well represented in rooms they’re not even physically in too. I’ve always wanted to a...

Episodio 57: I Pentagon Papers, Katharine Graham e Ben Bradlee.

Ben Bradlee
The Watergate burglary was 50 years ago this week. Iconic renowned Washington Post editor Ben Bradlee played a central role in covering Watergate. He took over at the Post in 1965, in the thick of Vietnam, the civil Rights movement and a changing journalism landscape. And although Watergate may be the thing he is best remembered for now, it was not the only major story he was involved in. I met Ben Bradlee in 1995, when he wrote his autobiography, a book called A Good Life.

The film is an intimate journey through the remarkable life of Washington Post executive editor Ben Bradlee, one of the country’s most “dangerous editors,” and the man largely credited with taking down President Richard Nixon in 1974 after the Post broke the Watergate story, the largest political scandal in American history. During a time when the first amendment and the press are under almost constant attack, Bradlee’s story, his fortitude and courage in the face of withering criticism, has never been more essential. Editor who exposed Watergate, Ben Bradlee, dies
Ben Bradlee was the editor of a newspaper that caused a political earthquake in Washington. It was the Post's pursuit of the truth behind a burglary of the Democratic Party headquarters at the Watergate hotel that led to the uncovering of a major political scandal that eventually led to President Richard Nixon's demise. Many see it as a high watermark for newspapers and investigative journalism. Michael Goldfarb worked at the Post in the early 1980s when Ben Bradlee was still in charge. Presenter Jon Bithrey asked him to reflect on how journalism has changed since then.

Ben Bradlee, Jr., "The Kid: The Immortal Life of Ted Williams"
December 9, 2013 at the Boston Athenæum. Born in 1918 in San Diego, Ted Williams would spend most of his life disguising his Mexican heritage. During his 22 years with the Boston Red Sox, Williams electrified crowds across America—and shocked them, too: his notorious clashes with the press and fans threatened his reputation. Yet while he was a God in the batter’s box, he was profoundly human once he stepped away from the plate. Mr. Bradlee—the only biographer to have full access to Williams’s personal papers, letters, and home movies—has spent ten years gleaning new details about the athlete’s h...

"The Kid: The Immortal Life of Ted Williams" with Ben Bradlee Jr.
Ted Williams wanted to be an immortal. He arrived in Boston in 1939, a cocky 20-year-old phenom eager to become, in his words, the “greatest hitter who ever lived.” Just two years later, his .406 batting average -- a mark that has never again been met -- backed up that claim. In The Kid: The Immortal Life of Ted Williams, Ben Bradlee, Jr., draws on numerous untapped sources to take us inside the clubhouse, the batter’s box, and beyond. He reveals new details about Williams’s feelings of shame over his Mexican heritage, his war service, the rages that fu...
