A Miniature World with Binnie Klein
A Miniature World with Binnie Klein January 1 2026 What I Loved
What is it about New Year's? Signaled by a day? I picture an enormous hourglass--a yearly one-- turned over by a giant force. Another next chance--your seemingly endless chunk of time will too soon dissolve like the grains of sand dripping through the glass. But we are pleased for more, always wanting more! We may or may not meet the resolves we set -- I say forgive yourself ahead of time! Here are some artists I've loved; some discovered in 2025. C'est le vent, Bettye/Gabriel Yared, Adrian Jodorowsky/Dancing to the Radio, Ben Sollee/A Change is Gonna Come...

A Miniature World with Binnie Klein - October 2, 2025 - Autumn Field Recording from My Deck
There is nothing more glorious than the sight and sound of a dog jumping into a pile of leaves. I recorded this episode out on my deck on one of the few remaining glorious autumn days. Amidst gorgeous music by, among others, MILCK, Bastille, New Order, Kae Tempest, Phish, Perfume Genius, Cold War Kids, and Lawrence Ferlinghetti's 1958 poem "I Am Waiting," (read by Abu B. Rafique), I water the plants and bug spray gives me a coughing fit.

Crow's Feet: Life As We Age
REINVENTION AS WE AGE IS BASED ON CREATIVITY
Binnie Klein is a Renaissance woman. At 74 she has reinvented her life time and again, from poet to psychotherapist to memoirist to songwriter, with several steps in between. She picked up boxing as a sport when she was 55. The red gloves in the corner of the gym caught her eye, and a memoir followed in 2010. A surprise phone call in 2016 triggered memories of a long-ago love, heartbreak, and the radical politics of the 1960s. A six-part audio memoir ensued. In this episode, she talks with host Jane Trombley about creativity being the “sustaining thing,”...

Tartie (In These Trees)
Today’s guest should be musically jetlagged. But she’s not. Welcome the mononymous Tartie to the podcast. She’s from Melbourne and has recently collaborated with Binnie Klein out of Connecticut for a project called In These Trees. It’s an emotional journey of an album. But before that happened, Tartie went through a whole lot of other phases. She taught herself piano at age six. She also started writing original music early on. She eventually studied music in college and played some unusual early gigs. Tartie discusses her early music, which is definitely more pop than more...

Joni Mitchell 'For The Roses' with Binnie Klein
Author, radio host and songwriter Binnie Klein (WPKN Radio, In These Trees) brings us Joni Mitchell and her stunning 1972 release, 'For The Roses'. Searching for balance in her life after a tumultuous relationship with James Taylor - and trying to escape the craziness of Los Angeles - Joni trekked back up to the Canadian wilderness and wrote most of this, her 5th studio album, while in retreat: "You've got to shake your fists at lightning now You've got to roar like forest fire You've got to spread your light like blazes all across the sky...
