In 1964, my dad’s eldest brother, Franklin Morgan, was a 20 y/o sailor working aboard the HMAS Voyager & by all accounts a lovely young man. Frank was one of 82 officers & sailors who tragically died when the HMAS Melbourne collided with the Voyager during a nighttime training exercise. It was the worst peacetime disaster in the RAN’s history & devastating for dad’s family.
57 years later, Frank’s niece (me) was invited to play an ambient set on board the Voyager’s identical sister ship, the HMAS Vampire. Bit of a full circle moment.
