被視為是古典音樂天才型的指標人物-莫札特（1756-1791），他的一生其實是充滿了戲劇性，甚至是悲劇收場的音樂天才。
1781年是他人生的分水嶺，之前是生活在傳統保守的薩爾滋堡宮庭文化，為達成父親祈許，他為成為宮廷樂長而努力，但這並不是新興人類莫札特所嚮往的日子⋯⋯
身處啓蒙運動的浪潮中，莫札特就像當時許多熱血的歐洲青年一樣，極力掙脱舊世代保守封建的束縛，追求屬於自己的自由生活！所以1781年，莫札特毅然決然，違背父親的旨意，一個人單槍匹馬的遠赴奧地利王國的首都─維也納，成為一個能自由創作的音樂人！這是典型新舊交替的世代衝突…
其實莫札特剛到維也納發展的前幾年，可說是名利雙收。每場音樂會的票房收入，非常可觀！但好景不常，當1785年比利時、荷蘭新教徒地區，對奧地利王國的反抗叛亂，1786年奧圖曼帝國再次圍攻維也納時，莫札特頓失舉辦音樂會的最大奧援─奧地利王國的皇帝，因為奧地利國王的經費，都拿去支應戰爭花費，沒錢聽音樂會了！這真是晴天霹靂的壞消息。
自此之後，莫札特必須不斷的接各式各樣的case，終至過勞而死。不過莫札特在維也納的這10年，是他人生創作的黃金十年。「交響曲之父」海頓曾寫信給莫札特的爸爸，稱讚他的兒子是他所認識的當代音樂家中，擁有最豐富的音樂知識與品味的音樂家。莫札特在這個時期，以D多利安為調性創作的各類型作品，幾乎都是他這一生的代表作。

《多利安》調式音階排序的第一個音是Re（學名是D），當十八世紀初，西歐古典音樂開始進入調性音樂，以Re為主音的D大調D小調的音樂創作，延續了柏拉圖的理想境界，為當代的古典音樂帶來了正向的、好的音樂能量。
本期古典音樂講堂系列講座，挑選了巴哈、海頓、莫札特、貝多芬、布拉姆斯、柴可夫斯基、拉赫曼尼諾夫、西貝流士與馬勒等指標型調性音樂作曲家們所創作的D大調與D小調的音樂，透過解析聆聽這些大師們的經典之作，開啓二千二百年前柏拉圖《理想國》中，鼓勵自我節制的美德與勇氣的精神世界。
