On closer inspection it is even more brilliant than at first listen. Most tracks have just two musically distinct parts (such as verse and chorus), but "Mamma Mia" has about half a dozen - all depicting the different crazy states of mind of an on-again, off-again relationship.

There's really nice remakes of "Heaven Knows" and "A Higher Place", as well as some new tracks by David Morales, who has been doing some great work. In particular, the first track is one of his, and might be my favorite in this mix.
The title, "The Real Thing", comes from the track by Mike Chenery - a relatively new release with a wonderful classic disco sound.

Once I got done, I noticed that I started off with the idea of feeling trapped; and then the last four tracks flip this script, and revolve around asserting oneself in various ways.
In particular, the 11th track is an excellent remake of the 1966 Sergio Mendez hit, "Mas Que Nada" - literally "more than anything", but actually a Brazilian idiom meaning something like, "No way!" or “Oh, come on now!” :-)

Originally performed by Rod Stewart as "Faith of the Heart", it's a track that people seem to either love or hate.
While obviously I love it (or I would not have spent so much time with it!), I see the other side's point: the arrangement for the two Star Trek versions is perhaps overly sentimental.
I felt that the strong lyrics would benefit from a rework to give them a more resolute and determined tone.
