Episode 130 - House of Terror: The Dupont de Ligonnès Murders
The 2011 Dupont de Ligonnès murders are one of France's most mysterious and haunting criminal cases. The victims included Agnès Dupont de Ligonnès and her four children: Arthur, Thomas, Anne, and Benoît. On October 16, 2024, the Menendez family held a press conference in Los Angeles to advocate for the possible re-sentencing of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Kitty Menendez. Members from both Kitty and José's families emphasized that the brothers, now in prison for over three decades, committed the crime as a result of years of severe abuse by their father. Episode 128: The Menendez Brothers - Part 2
After the murders, Lyle and Erik spent lavishly, using their parents' money, which raised suspicion. In 1990, Erik confessed to his therapist, Dr. Oziel, which ultimately led to their arrest. The defense team, led by Leslie Abramson, argued that the brothers killed their parents out of fear for their lives after years of abuse. The prosecution argued that the brothers killed their parents to inherit their fortune. At the end of two VERY different trials the brothers found themselves serving life without parole. We have a lot of thoughts on this case due to it's complicated and controversial story.
