今集嘅討論會集中喺義戰論嘅經典著作,Michael Walzer嘅《Just and Unjust Wars》。Today's episode discusses Just War Theory especially in relation to the topic of humanitarian intervention. What are the conditions of a just war? When can a country legitimately intervene militarily into another country? What if a country's intentions and motives are "impure"? We will discuss all these with reference to Michael Walzer's Just and Unjust Wars, a classic on the topic.
究竟電影想帶出咩訊息?(Spoiler alert) As the final episode of 2025, this episode talks about something more light-hearted: Zootopia! On its surface, Zootopia 1 and 2 seem to be about Judy and Nick solving crimes in the animal metropolis, but what are the political messages embedded in the movies? Is Zootopia a real Utopia for all animals regardless of species? References:Chew, Kevin. “On war and cuteness: the utopian politics of Disney’s Zootopia.” Screen 60, no. 4 (2019): 567–586.

The heartbreaking blaze at Tai Po reminds everyone that despite our best efforts, the world is inherently uncontrollable. German philosopher Hartmut Rosa's The Uncontrollability of the World contends that modernity's urge to control the uncontrollable world creates radical alienation and makes the world even more uncontrollable. Hence, Rosa thinks we should aim to establish a relation of resonance with the world. References:Rosa, Hartmut. The Uncontrollability of the World. Translated by James C. Wagner.
It should be "Denmark" instead.**A common reason to reject immigration is that immigrants (or too many of them) cannot "integrate" into the "mainstream" culture. What is the relevant discussion in political theory like? Why should an immigrant integrate, and what does "integration" look like? What can the host country do or not do to foster integration or to protect its own "national culture"? References:Carens, Joseph. The Ethics of Immigration.
Immigration is a huge topic in political science and political theory alike, and it bears great significance to Hongkongers worldwide. This episode looks at a classic but significant debate in political theory on the ethics of immigration. ,Why does the state have the power to exclude (would-be) immigrants? Democracy seems to be the golden standard of government, but many people are increasingly frustrated with the functioning of democratic governments. What's wrong? Today we discuss the book Debating Democracy , where political theorists Jason Brennan and Hélène Landemore discuss proposals like testing voters on political knowledge or having assemblies made up of randomly sampled citizens. Ultimately, both seem to agree that we should move beyond electoral models of democracy. References:Brennan, Jason and Hélène Landemore. Debating Democracy: Do We Need More or Less? Private property right is a core concept in Western political and legal philosophy. While Locke argues that property right is one of the most important rights given to us by God, Rousseau thinks whoever invented the concept is a sinner. Why is that? We will discuss private property right and distributive justice with regards to the works of Locke, Nozick, and Rousseau.

點解佢覺得所有人都要放棄所有自由先得?"Man is born free; yet everywhere he is in chains." This quote from Jean-Jacques Rousseau is one of the best known quotes in political theory. How does his social contract theory differ from Hobbes's and Locke's? We will explore how two of the most important political philosophers, Thomas Hobbes and John Locke, understands the source and moral justification of legitimate political authority. The core essence of the social contract theory is to conceptualise our relationship with the state as a binding contract. A modern spin on a Korean tradition: Kimjang in south Minneapolis

We rolled up our sleeves, pulled on gloves and got to work on the 14 cabbages at our disposal. The process is labor-intensive: we tore each cabbage in half and salted them all. Then we set...

The Korean War is aptly known in America as the “Forgotten War.” During the 1960s, the subject took in its last cinematic hurrah before getting overshadowed by the rising unpopularity of America’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Meanwhile, South Korea was experiencing a fabled “Golden Age” of cinema that followed the civil war and continued into the ‘60s – one that had some of its most famous hits rather cruelly lost to time. At Cinema60, we’ve largely ignored the Combat Film genre on whole… until now! In this episode, Bart and Jenna take the opportunity to dig a little deepe...
