Michael Vredenburg: Maritime New Zealand exposes worker exploitation on Taiwanese ship
Worker exploitation on a foreign ship has been uncovered by Maritime New Zealand. The crown entity stopped a Taiwanese bulk-carrier on its way to Panama in Canterbury's Lyttelton Harbour until operator Wisdom Marine International paid crew four-months worth of wages. Martime New Zealand's Southern Regional Compliance Manager Michael Vredenburg told Larry Williams that received notifications from an organisation called the International Transport Workers Federation, which advocates for seafarer rights.
