5 Signs Jose Showed Before His Cancer Diagnosis
This is a special episode. It was originally recorded as a private audio for our senior dog parent communities, Glow Together and AfterGlow, shortly after we said goodbye to our beloved Jose—just 9 days after his cancer diagnosis.I’m sharing it with you now because the signs Jose showed were so subtle… and as both a veterinarian and a senior dog parent, I know how easy it is to miss those quiet shifts when our dogs still seem mostly okay. This recording isn’t heavy on grief (though that’s been ever-present for us). "Hey, I lost my eye for this gang, remember?" We watched "Switchblade Sisters" (1975) with our friend Ben Cheaves and we're Jezebels - remember that name! All we can say is thank you to Quentin Tarantino for breathing new life into this girl-gang expoitation masterpiece. We can see how this one could have easily fallen into obscurity, but Tarantino's re-release in 1996 kickstarted its cult status. Assailed at the time of release for being a shallow exercise in style, to watch Breathless 40 years later is to see a work arguably as influential on the next generation of American filmmakers as Godard’s original had been on the New American Cinema of the 1970s; the remake’s cocktail of retro cool, fast cars and meta-textual pop culture references mark it as a clear...
