01/11/23 Show 137 : Take Your Child To (Someone Else's Place Of) Work Day
you know the saying, “The Gerard Cosloy Radio Hour That Feels Like Two Hours Is For The Children”? No, I cannot say I have ever heard it before either, but in light of Big Thief’s invitation to educators (BRING KIDS TO SOUNDCHECK - GENIUS STUFF) I am extended a similar invite to school classes, youth groups, church outings, etc. to observe THIS PROGRAM's preparation and production. I believe it was Al Jourgensen who said "a (creative) mind is terrible thing to taste" though chances are he meant "waste" and no one in his inner circle had the guts to poi...

08/03/22 Show 114 : MLB Trade Deadline Special
so i hope we know each other well enough that i can confide in you a weird, reoccurring dream I have every year around the end of July/start of August.I’m standing on the infield grass at Citi Field and I’m crying. Sobbing, uncontrollably. I’ve been told I’ve been traded and I don’t want to go. And I’m wailing away out there for the entire world to see.I get back to the dugout and it turns out there’s been a big mistake. I’ve not been traded...

welcome to episode 113 of the program fig 1 : rules for entry to Lawrence’s pad (taken from ‘Lawrence Of Belgravia’, 2011, Paul Kelly), almost word for word the same sign I’ve had posted above my front door since moving to Austin some 18 years ago (there’s a few minor changes, see below). It’s worked out almost as well for me as it has for Lawrence — my residence is largely handprint / wetness free. fig 2 : John Entwistle action figure, circa 2015. 07/20/22 Show 122 : Snap Me (Im)perfect
the cover of the new issue of Time Magazine declares “INTO THE METAVERSE : The Next Digital Era Will Change Everything”, to which I can only say I sure as fuck hope so because the current digital era BLOWS. I had a series of meetings with a gang of Austin tech pencil necks who devised a scheme in which this show would jettison the tired, played-out podcast/mixcloud format and it’s triple digit (at best) listenership in favor of making me the resident DJ on Roblox. I was totally prepped for this paradigm shift (sorry Mox) but when they showed...

07/13/22 Show 111 : Milo Goes To The Gulag
As we hit episode #111, far too many of you are consumed with the burning question, “is it appropriate to wear a Falling Down Fuckface t-shirt to a congressional hearing”? You might as wonder aloud about wearing a Fang shirt to a job interview (which might work out quite well if the position was selling Fang merch), it means little to me as I’m devoted to staying above the fray. No distractions. Eyes on the prize (which might not work out well if the prize is a Fang shirt)You might be familiar with the expression, “with great ta...

07/06/22 Show 110 : You Can't Spell Humanist Without "Um"
for episode 110, I’ve chosen to reflect upon the 487th anniversary of the death of Sir Thomas More, beheaded on this day in 1535 for his refusal to accept King Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England. From one great humanist (More) to another (me), it’s difficult to reconcile that Sir Thomas was the same age as me upon his execution, however there is some solace in knowing he died doing what he loved (refusing to accept King Henry VIII as the head of the Church of England). And were I to keel over this very mome...

06/29/22 Show 109 : While I Won't Get Out Of Bed For Less Than $500, We Could Always Put Wheels On The Bed
following up from another recent IG post, the televised revelation that is Dean Cain’s “Masters Of Illusion” (it’s been on for nearly a decade — this is a hiding in plain sight of nearly Byron Allen-esque proportions) led me to investigate whether or not Cain had ever booked illusionist supreme DAVID SLEAZE on the program. The sprawling wiki entry from Sleaze’s alter ego, character actor/filmmaker Greg Travis suggested otherwise, which strikes me as the single greatest injustice this side of no local nightspot booking me to DJ in nearly 5 years. Yes, it’s true i have turned down...

06/22/22 Show 108 : The Show Must Go On (But No One Knows Precisely Why)
the heat’s been absolutely brutal in this part of the country over the past few weeks and with the launch of episode 108, I had to do something to address air conditioning issues in what i will optimistically call my “home studio”. Through a third party who shall remain nameless (OK, I forgot his name), arrangements were made to sublease a portion of Taylor, TX’s SST Superstore, however, upon arrival the space was occupied by an elderly couple, a half dozen or so feral dogs and several skids of Confront James overstock (which most worryingly, were an object of...

06/15/22 Show 107 : Dall-E's Car(sickness)
presumably you've all seen this week's story about Google silencing one of their own engineers for claiming the company's A.I. had become sentient, which was surprising on multiple levels. For starters, I had no idea Allen Iverson was working for Google, but beyond that, of course he's sentient. I really don't understand how that's a controversial statement.

There’s no Count Bishops songs on this episode because the programs rights clearance department is an absolute disgrace.

06/01/22 Show 105 : Brian's Problem (Or "Into The Betty Blackwellverse")
For episode 105, let’s consider that in this era of Thomas J. Henry spending untold zillions to convince the state of Texas he’s not the T-800 in a six thousand dollar suit, we can instead recall a simpler time, when criminal attorney Betty Blackwell referenced her own late night television advertisement in a subsequent advertisement that swapped out the perp’s photo for something that looked vaguely dustier (we’re left to guess what Brian’s problem was but we can safely assume it was something in the DUI / controlled substances department - or maybe not. 05/25/22 Show 104 : If Hatchets Are Outlawed, Only Members Of Molly Hatchet Will Have Hatchets
when I was growing up, calls for firearm regulation were often met with the reply, “if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.” Look back on this piece of logic, no one would want to live in a society where the men responsible for “Green Grass & High Tides” were toting guns, however it doesn’t seem as though it would be very difficult to keep an eye on them (even with all the lineup changes). I’m not sure I understand why it would make more sense to expect educators to arm themselves versus a) outlawing guns, b) keeping T...

I was not, however, about to let omicron ba.2 prevent me from completing episode 102 of this program, and if you think I'm the sort of person who is above milking this scenario in order to ensure a few extra listeners, you clearly don't know me at all (in fact, I think it's fair to say you're not only late for the party but you've arrived after the...

It’s funny how our interests and fears can merge when we’re sleeping. Maybe not funny “ha ha”, With the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, my mind is certainly in one place and last night I found myself dreaming that noted reproductive rights advocate Tie Domi had pulled Joseph Alito’s robe over the latter’s head and proceeded to pummel the 72 year-old Supreme Court Justice. 04/27/22 Show 100 : Exorcising A Visage, Neglecting To Feature Visage's "Fade To Grey"
for episode 100, I resisted the temptation to take a victory lap — not out of modesty, but rather because it’s a rather long lap around the block and I twisted my ankle falling over 12XU overstock the other day. Instead, keeping a mindful eye on court proceedings taking place in Virginia, I thought we could deal with EXORCISING the self-pitying testimony (if not the entire visage) of the trial’s plaintiff, and with that mind, the program features the debut of the REVERSE HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES (FKA Hollywood Vampires In Reverse). Though this is not quite as spectacular as featuring The Stra...

if Faxed Head can form, rehearse and record in a taco bell’s mensroom, I see no reason why Reggie Miller cannot live in a Wendy’s - comparatively, there’s more than enough space. But this also got me to thinking — in light of director Craig Zobel receiving so much acclaim for “Mare Of Easttown”, WHAT IF he could be compelled to film a prequel to his 2012 effort “Compliance”, though on this occasion have the story take place in a Wendy’s with Reggie playing the part of the hapless manager being pranked-the-fuck-out by a PrankNet saboteur? for the 98th edition of this program, we're taking a hard look at the possibility the 2008 exploits of Australian party monster Corey Worthington --- a former guest of the show --- would inspire some sort of Southern Hemisphere oneupmanship in the residency destruction sweepstakes. I thought I had it bad in this neighborhood -- there's a home on the adjacent street where I don't think they've mowed the lawn in at least 2 weeks --- but apparently we're just complete and total amateurs in this part of the world when it comes to fucking shit up. A very wise man in the financial sector once coined the phrase “grow or die” and since I am not a fan of dying, I am pleased to announced a ten percent share in this show has now been acquired by ATL social media sensation Darius Coooks. I recently took Coook’s online MASTERCLASS, “Unstoppable : How To Create A Winning Brand When Everyone Wants You To Lose” and was blown away by his powerful message. 03/30/22 Show 96 : God Forgives, This Program's Creditors Do Not
for episode 96, I've taken a slight detour --- shortly after the one hour mark, there's a lengthy interview with Max Meehan and Justin Bissonette the curatorial minds behind Austin independent wrestling company Inspire A.D. (FKA Inspire Pro) It would take several hours to properly detail these individuals' accomplishments as developers of talent so instead I just glossed over it. You think Ricky Starks, Keith Lee, Thunder Rosa, Sammy Guevara and countless others just became the toasts of national television without years of foundation-forming? For episode 94, I would like to openly confess that I am just more than a little bit conflicted about doing this show right in the middle of WFMU’s annual marathon — the last thing I would want to do is undermine their fund-raising efforts even slightly by streaming a show that is so utterly fantastically entertaining, all other programs — online or off — seem feeble by comparison. during a pre-dusk hike through the lovely park behind my vast estate, I was so overcome with the beauty on display that I thought it would be a good idea to focus episode #90 of the program around music inspired and informed by our natural environment. The air. The trees. The soil. The water. The tiny red ants that got into my right shoe and left me with a discernible limp that may or may have gone away by the time you read this. 02/09/22 Show 89 : Get Your Trousers, You're Nicked
for episode 89, the initial plan was to focus on decorated archival label Light In The Car Sick’s dogged efforts to assemble a box set containing the entire Mutha Records oeuvre. Months of interviews and post-production went down the toilet, however, when this program’s rights clearance department — currently on a losing streak to rival that of the 2010-2011 Cleveland Cavaliers —neglected to obtain permission for the use of Brunfuss’ “Spandex Rock”. It was touch and go for a moment whether or not this show would get completed on time — I was occupied most of yesterday tracking the progress of my bid for an NFT of Wild Dogs’ ‘Man’s Best Friend’ (Shrapnel, 1984). Unfortunately, it seems my personal assistant fucked up royally and instead was bidding on the far less interesting 2015 reunion album NFT, ‘Born To Rock Forever’. It seems the duo took exception to my recent claim that Brady Seals & Lua Crofts’ “Seals & Crofts 2” was a huge fraud on the scale of ELO Pt. As some of you have probably guessed, many weeks I struggle to come up with original content for this program. The syndication service behind the show recently told me that telling the story about the time I was asked to leave the Bloodhound Gang’s green room would not be sufficient basis for a two hour podcast. To wit, the heavy-handed attempts of one disreputable label, Kindly Cock Records, to influence the programming of this show. Unlike most of you, I've got something called ETHICS -- not to be confused with a no longer in vogue skate shoe --- and it will take much, more than an all expenses paid junket* to see the Brooklyn Nets host a COVID-depleted Los Angeles Clippers lineup on New Year's Day to get me to play...

It would not be an exaggeration to say this Belushi-less exercise was a full frontal assault on the senses (if not the sensibilities), an insult to human intelligence so explicit, so abject, I'm not sure I can ever listen to music, see film, or hear dialogue the same way ever again. It was reported yesterday (fig. 2) that Chris Christie’s new book, despite a #1 ranking in Amazon’s “Radical Thought” category had sold, well, zero copies. I think we can blame this predicament on something besides the former NJ governor being a universal pariah and more on his failure to heed my suggestion to title the tome, “Q : If Joe Grushecky and Jon Cafferty Were Both Drowning And You Could Only Save One, Who Would It Be? 10/27/21 Show 74 : All Cats Are More Psychedelic Than The Black Angels
for episode number 74 of the greatest online radio program (produced in this zip code…well, this side of the street, anyway) it’s time for my annual LEVITATION FEST preview. If you know me, and i hope you do, the Levitation Festival is sort of like Xmas & the 4th of July all smashed together. No check that, it’s more Yom Kippor meets Take Your Anaconda To Work Day, and both of ‘em are running neck and neck in the atonement stakes. Look, I know you’re all excited to catch the Floppy Hat Fuckfaces and other hopefuls from the pseudo...

10/20/21 Show 73 : The Celebrity Accountant
this week’s episode tackles the thorny subject of Volkswagon’s 2020 three-part series of television commercials for the Atlas Cross Sport (21 mpg city, 24 mpg highway). The ad agency tapped Paul Giamatti and Kieran Culkin to play parts designed to not so loosely recall their current roles on “Billions” and “Succession” respectively, thus causing confusion on the part of viewers who would prefer not to watch either show out of sequence. Also curious is VW’s decision to scrap the 3rd commercial in the trilogy, leaving us to wonder how the story is resolved (perhaps a class action suit on the part of A...

10/13/21 Show 72 : The Customer Is Always Wrong
For episode 72, I’m happy to announce this is the first-ever ALL-REQUEST show, but perhaps not nearly as happy that the majority of the requests were either “go fuck yourself” or “drop dead”. Much like Cronos’ difficulty negotiating with a unruly City Gardens mob, I humbly ask that you refrain from all shouting at me at the same time. I realize I’m not John Gambling, but surely you can understand that it is not possible to fuck yourself and drop dead simultaneously. There’s an exact sequence to these events (as John Gambling demonstrated). Anyhow, I don’t have time to spell...

10/06/21 Show 71 : Operation Shutdown
Whether it had anything to do with this program’s staggering popularity or it was a purposeful, malicious act on the part of a rogue state or an ransom-minded hacker, we’ll never know for certain. What we have learned, however, is that Monday’s Mixcloud outage is a cautionary tale for a modern society far too obsessed with convenience. For instance, when was the last time you sought out someone whose slights, real or imagined, have caused you profound psychic damage. And I don’t mean hacking their linked in account, I’m talking about old fashioned legwork. Follow the...

Did i ever tell you about the time I made a dating profile for King Diamond on Christian Mingle? I felt pretty good about the level of detail that went into it, but only a few days went by before the profile was taken down and my account was blocked. While this was less galling than the half dozen or so times I've been banned from Yelp, THE JOKE WAS ON THEM because I've since mingled with PLENTY of Christians. I've even cohabitated with a few (prior to being blocked, anyway). Anyhow, I attempt to...

I don’t often get into deeply personal stuff on this show but for episode 69 I will make a rare exception. My Amar’e Stoudemire headphones broke into pieces during the recording of this program and it’s hard for me to put into words how upsetting this is. You can keep your Koss, your Beyer-Dynamics, your Sennheiser cans. True audiophiles know that Amar’e Stoudemire Skullcandy headphones are the real shit. Or at least they were before they broke into pieces. All of that said, much the way Amar’e Stoudamire dealt with adversity during his playing care...

A guided tour of the world's 17th biggest landfill isn't quite what it's cracked up to be. Though to be honest, no one really built it up that much. There's an old saying, "one man's garbage is pretty much straight up garbage" and we're going to try our best to find whoever was responsible for this unhelpful statement.

I don't know if this has anything to do with my being hospitalized from physical attacks 2 weeks running, but I've been informed this program's producer and social media director are not coming in this today, citing a dangerous working environment. This has echoes of Shawn Michaels in 1994 if you ask me, but hey, I'm an adult with 4 whole months of college and I'm pretty sure I can figure out how this stuff works. So you know how there’s some online radio hosts who promise they’re gonna take you on some kind of a “musical journey”, one where they don’t need a map?I’m sure that sounds exciting to those of you with no imaginations or life experiences to speak of, but take it from someone that’s been around the block a few times. For starters, journeys suck (much like the band) and as much fun as tooling around sans a map sounds, invariably you end somewhere in the woods with no petrol. Before long, you’re greeted by a...

I'm not quite sure how I managed to produce this week's episode. Several days ago, I had an unfortunate encounter with several large individuals at a local drinking establishment who took great exception to my (loud) insistence that Jerry Reed was both the author and singer of :"Junk Food Junkie" and said condition was the cause of his passing. For starters, I was incorrect (the song was performed by Larry Groce) and I deeply regret my inflammatory remarks. Coincidently, Nets PG Kyrie Irving --- who accused the Skirvin of being infested with bed bugs, is producing a film on the subject (the paranormal activity, not the bedbugs).and got the entire hotel staff to sign agreements forbidding discussion with other outlets, including this one. Why is it none of the major (or minor) MMA organizations have sought to organize a rematch? Has no one explored the possibility that Hiliger -- secretly a fan of old-school rock journalism -- took exception to G'n'R's 1991 challenge to the music press powers that be, “Get In The Ring" (although it also took him 15 years to do something abou...

Thought by some to be a cheap joke at the expense of fledgling experimental musicians, in reality, this incident highlighted the cruel realities of the noise table trafficking networks that continue to permeate our major cities. Even stranger, "Game On!" is not currently available via any streaming service. Shouldn’t there be streaming provider devoted to this sort of thing, kind of like Light In The Attic? Persons with a modicum of good judgement objected, saying Hell deservers the right --- as we all do --- to get the shopping in without jackals (or members of Jackyl) complaining he doesn't look like Antonio Sabato (presumably a young Antonio Sabato, though I don't know, maybe he's taken particularly good care of himself). It's funny what sleep deprivation can do to a programmer. While we're on the subject of questionable decisions, I'm going to say my promise to bludgeon the individual who wrote a longish critique of last week's episode (and my on-air invitation for that person to visit my home, complete with my street address provided) was ill-advised, however I'm told by the...

In retrospect, perhaps it wasn't a great idea to enlist Vitaly Borkalitus as this program's new head of marketing, social media and customer service. Admittedly, i was aware of his prior history of threatening / doxing / stalking persons who'd publicly complained about his previous online activities in the eyeglass trade, but I honestly believed he'd turned over a new leaf. 12/23/20 SHOW 30 : THE NIGHT BEFORE THE MORNING AFTER
Of the graphic commercials for 1984’s “Silent Night, Deadly Night”, the late Gene Siskel famously declared, ““the showing of Santa with an axe on free TV in commercials is sick, and sleazy, and mean-spirited.” However, one might argue it was absolutely necessary. I’ made such an argument on this week’s show, however TriStar Pictures — a subsidiary of Sony Entertainment — ignored my reasonable requests to use dialogue from “Silent Night, Deadly Night” and as such, we’ve had to opt for 2 hours of music. Merry fooking christmas, indeed.

12/30/20 SHOW 31 : THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEAN TREATMENT (OF UNREDEEMED DOWNLOAD CODES)
As we come to the end of 2020, i can share with you my most ambitious project to date — an attempt to create a modern equivalent of Fredrick Wiseman’s “Titicut Follies” for the podcast medium, this time addressing the plight of unredeemed download codes, all piled to the ceiling in the most dire of living conditions. Repeated tries at getting executives from Bandcamp, downloadthisrecord.com, dropcards and A To Z Media to speak on the record were stonewalled, so not for first time, I’ve had to resort to an all-music program. Maybe 2021 will be easier —I doubt it.

12/16/20 SHOW 29 : A TRIBUTE TO THE VAST GRR-R RECORDS DISCOGRAPHY
Headlines(?) were made recently when the office fixtures of Chicago dumbshit/repository Victory Records were auctioned off to the public, but what of the treasures left behind in the warehouses of San Francisco's Grr-r label? Though the imprint only released one title, 1990's seminal, 'Sebastian Speaks - Your Watchdog On A Disc', we can only speculate what sort of incredible artifacts were up for grabs when Grr-r decided to shut their doors. Or we can do a 2+ hour podcast about it. (On the advice of their lawyers, no one involved with Grr-r was willing to speak on t...

12/09/20 SHOW 28 : SURVIVING "SURVIVING THE GAME"
some will tell you Irving Pichel and Ernest B. Schoedsack's 1932 adaptation of "The Most Dangerous Game" is the granddaddy of all HUNTING HUMANS motion pictures. Others prefer John Woo's "Hard Target", while some deranged individuals see the merits in the John Leguizamo comedy vehicle, "The Pest". With full respect to all other efforts to depict jaded, venal motherfuckers snuffing out human lives for sport, I would nominate Ernest Dickerson's 1994 saga, "Surviving The Game" as the genre's classic. While not nearly as original as Dickerson's 1992 "Juice" (which for the purposes of this discussion, was not a hunting humans m...

12/02/20 SHOW 27 : PUTTING THE DENT IN DETENTE
after this past weekend’s rather anticlimactic exhibition bout between Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr., I convened this show’s production staff to attempt to determine which was the most memorable celebrity boxing encounter of all-time. ?As you would expect, there were nominations for Joey Buttafucco vs. the late Joanie “Chyna” Lauer, Manute Bol vs. William “Refrigerator” Perry, and most controversially, S-Club 7’s Hannah Spearrit vs. The Saturdays’ Vanessa White, but after several recounts, the (narrow) winner was the 1996 clash betwixt skateboarding’s Simon Woodstock and Suicidal Tendencies’ Mike Muir. Though the fight itself is not considered a wonderfu...

11/25/20 SHOW 26 : STAMFORD VS. HOOKSETT, YOU BETTER PICK WHICH SIDE YOU'RE ON
as much as I'd like to say this special time of year is about bringing people together, the simple fact of the matter is the New England territory is not big enough for 2 GG's. In fact, it might not have been large enough for one. We can debate whether or not it is appropriate or safe to encourage family gatherings simply for the purpose of commemorating the 30th anniversary of Hector Guerrero's not-entirely successful unhatching, but really, why talk when we can fight instead?

11/18/20 SHOW 25 : REBRANDING THE ANTI-NOWHERE LEAGUE, "THE LEAGUE" IN AN ATTEMPT TO CROSSOVER
Adaptability in an ever-changing marketplace has never been more important. I try to tell people that all the time but do they listen? No, they just leave the doors and windows open, the cereal on the countertop, there's BEARD BITS ALL OVER THE SINK. I mean, that's it. I've had enough. I am done babysitting these guys. Find someone else to mastermind their next "reboot" or whatever they wanna call it. I need to clear my mind.

10/14/20 SHOW 20 : YOU DON'T WANT A FRACTION OF FRICTION, FACT NOT FICTION
PITIFUL PUNKS WITH CHUNKS (RIPPED FROM YOUR BODY)(Pep Love, 2001)for this week's program, my new producer (bottom right corner) had booked special guests Corey Worthington, Fox Alaska news reader Maria Athens and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. Unfortunately, there was some confusion over the correct time-zone with Worthington, Athens says she's been detained by Anchorage police ) and as for Christie, well, he's simply not picking up the phone. All in all, I'd say this new booker is a vast improvement on the last one. music submissions : info@12XU.netphysical me...

11/11/20 SHOW 24 : NO JUSTICE, NO PEACE (WHEN YOU'RE PASSING A FAKE DOG OFF AS THE REAL THING)
this week's program is dedicated to the FLOP campaign of Texas Third Court Of Appeals Chief Justice Jeff Rose, who promised Central TX voters he'd not "legislate from the bench" (for fuck's sake) but used a FAKE DOG in his TV commercials. There's real dogs running all over the goddamn street and this guy goes to Toys-R-Us. 11/04/20 SHOW 23 : PROTECTING A BROKEN SYSTEM AT ALL COSTS
much the way overzealous fans of the 1957 Cincinnati Reds stuffed the ballot box packing that year's National League All-Star team with all eight of their starting position players, this show is constantly victimized in the Mixcloud chart rankings by unscrupulous programmers and their acolytes, conspiring to fuck me out of my rightful place at the top of the rankings. In the healing business you get to a point where you ask yourself if you wanna be a Rainere or a Towle. And without question, I'd rather be a Towle. 10/21/20 SHOW 21 : FUCK CINDERELLA, FUCK BON JOVI AND MOTHERFUCK P----CE
this week's show is dedicated to the newest member of production team CSTB, Larry the slow loris. Many of you know I'm an animal lover and Larry absolutely captured my heart when I saw him caged at Austin's Pound 4 Suspicious Creatures. Unfortunately, I completed his adoption just prior to reading the recent NY Times article about slow loris' deadly venom and as a result, I've had to vacate my premises and turn the entire operation over to Larry. Hopefully I'll find a new laptop / remote taping location by next week, a lot depends on whether my health insurance...

Episode 3 - Gerard Cosloy of Matador Records, 12XU Records
The guys take a quiet journey with Gerard Cosloy, co-founder of Matador Records and founder of 12XU records, down a rabbit hole of bad, cancelled TV sitcoms, Don Rickles lesser known works, and a case of bargain beer that was politely turned down by legendary band, The Fall. This one's a slow burn.
