Der Flug der Raumsonde Giotto zum Kometen Halley war ein Meilenstein in der Erforschung von Kometen und für die ESA eine wichtige Mission beim Aufbau der interplanetaren Forschung. Giotto lieferte durch seine große Annäherung an Halley Bilder in einer bis dahin nicht bekannten Güte.
