Playwright James Graham + the future of theatre
Last week we were lucky enough to interview playwright James Graham, best known for Quiz, This House, Labour of Love and of course Brexit: an uncivil war. We asked him about his early years as a Midlands-born, working class writer in London, his motivation for trying to find empathy in the most controversial public figures (eg Rupert Murdoch or Dominic Cummings) and a little musical he’s developing with 'up-and-coming' artist Elton John. We also talked to him about systemic lack of representation and discrimination in theatre, what Government interventions need to happen right now to ensure the survival of...

Graham Young, also known as The Teacup Poisoner, began his life with tragedy with his mother dying when he was just three months old. He would spend his early years with his aunt and uncle, forming a strong bond with them, only to have his life turned upside down when his father remarried and brought his children back home. From there, Graham became withdrawn and focused all his attention on learning as much as he could about science and chemistry, especially poisons and how they worked. He would soon begin testing his concoctions...on the people around him. By the...

Graham Young was an unusual boy. Infinitely fascinated with chemistry, he devoted large amounts of his early life pouring over thick medical textbooks, educating himself on the properties of various chemical compounds. What stood Graham out from his peers more than his intellect was that his obsession with chemistry revolved almost solely around the usage of various poisons. Curiosity has always been inherently dangerous and this is infinitely more true in the case of Graham Young, when theory turned to practice. SOURCES: Holden, A. (1974). The St Albans Poisoner. What Your Light Meter is Trying to Tell You, Pt. 1
In order to properly expose the film in your camera, you need to know how much light is falling on the scene you are trying to make a picture of. You can use your camera's built-in light meter, a hand-held dedicated meter or even your own eyes to determine that amount of light but measuring that light is only part of the story. In this episode, I discuss how to use the data from the light meter to get the right exposure settings to your camera. Most of the time, you can simply transfer the readings to the shutter...
