文學的異想世界EP113-怕什麼彈簧刀?讀《爺爺和我》幾場總統辯論後民調封關，耳朵暫時清靜幾天。上週新北市國中生殺人事件見出當前教育盲點，法律保護加害人，教師失去管教權，社會安全網淪為空談。這起駭人的命案只是單一極端個案，還是校園危機的警訊?見報紙「教育部加碼補助中小學教師3-6次免費心理諮商服務」，「協助老師排解工作上的壓力與困難」，「 4年增聘1600名特教助理減輕特教老師負擔」，「未來應可補助訴訟費用」不覺失笑，這樣可以解決教育問題? 教師行政超量，動輒得咎，學童沉迷網路或忙於課業，身心都不健康，問題往下還延伸到大學。正如柯P所說「應該想辦法讓國民健康，而不是生病再來醫療」。
彈簧刀何足懼?還有8歲就拿槍打獵的呢! 1972年國語日報兒童文學叢書中魯瓦克(Robert Ruark，1915-1965)《爺爺和我》（The Old Man and The Boy）是這樣令人難忘的書。作者回憶幼時暑假到北卡羅萊納州鄉間和爺爺共同生活的數年，那是一九二○年代的美國南方，這是一本關於大自然的書，更是一本關於成長、關於生命的書，簡直是人人都應該擁有的童年。小男孩脫離父母管束，樂不思蜀，造平底船，研究風力、潮汐、彈道學，想像自己是湯姆索耶，獨自拿16釐米口徑的雙管獵槍，帶獵狗阿皮到森林裡獵鵪鶉、松鼠，野鴨，兔子，在月光下的海灘看海龜生蛋，在凍得耳朵快掉下來的清晨出門。書中那鄉間早餐，常把我饞得流口水：「燒木柴的方形大爐灶，玫瑰色的火焰在歡躍，爺爺銜著菸斗，長柄炒鍋裡，炒火腿蛋，油煎麵包嗤嗤直響，白鐵盤裡放一片片煎好的火腿，咖啡壺在爐上唱歌呢!」還有葡萄布丁的甜點，那是英國海員航行時的食物，吃時要蘸白蘭地酒的調味汁。露營野宴中有烤生蠔，乾焙軟殼蟹，節日時祖母作浸透白蘭地的果餅、核桃，三種不同風味的火腿―塞滿乾丁香花苞的淡黃色醃火腿，腿肉鮮嫩的深紅色鄉村火腿，還有腿皮處夾一層白嫩的肥肉，裡面粉紅色，顏色好漂亮的的斯密費爾名產…。
魯瓦克和海明威一樣是個記者，只活了50歲，1965在倫敦去世(我10歲讀這書時他早已不在人間)。北卡羅林納州和華特斯威海灣，歡悅的水波和涼爽的海風迎面而來，沼澤裡有打不完的秧雞、長尾鳧，露營野宴火光中有黑人獵廚、印地安人傭工。這爺爺從釣魚、獵鹿到撒魚網都會，嚴格告誡他槍枝的危險，提醒他「未開槍就先扳開保險，這是一種最壞的習慣」，但同時他主張「男孩子甚麼時候要學打槍，他就有資格有槍了，不管他的年紀有多麼小，而且不能因為他太小，就不讓他開始學習」。
西方父母能放心讓小孩自己在沼澤海邊打獵划船抓魚，全身被水母螫傷，差點被海潮帶走，但也同時訓練打獵須嚴守安全規矩。野性不馴的童年，反倒使人懂得體諒別人，內心有清晰的標準，自知生存的價值何在。相較之下，我們的教育是如何?
我還是不知道北卡羅林納州在哪兒，但記得《Tonight, I Celebrate My Love》(今夜，向你傾訴我的愛)這首浪漫情歌， 1983年由Peabo Bryson（彼柏·布萊森)和Roberta Flack(蘿貝塔・弗萊克)唱紅。同為黑人，Peabo Bryson來自南卡羅來納州，Roberta Flack來自北卡羅來納州，真是美聲極品：「Tonight I celebrate my love for you今夜向你傾訴我的愛Tonight our spirits will be climbing/To a sky filled up with diamonds今晚我倆的靈魂將一起飛越那滿是鑽石的星空。Tonight I celebrate my love for you今夜向你傾訴我的愛And soon this old world will seem brand new這個老舊的世界將會煥然一新…」。老舊的世界，將會煥然一新，1.13投票，這將是多少熱情選民的期待。
