ਪ੍ਰੋ. ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਕਜ਼ਾਕ ਦਾ ਜਨਮ ਪਾਕਿਸਤਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ 15 ਜਨਵਰੀ 1943 ਨੂੰ ਸ. ਸਾਧੂ ਸਿੰਘ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਆਮ ਸਾਧਾਰਨ ਦਿਹਾਤੀ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੋਇਆ। ਪਰਿਵਾਰਕ ਮਜ਼ਬੂਰੀਆਂ ਕਰਕੇ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਅੱਧ ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਛੱਡਣੀ ਪਈ ਅਤੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੀ ਰਾਜਗਿਰੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਾਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਜੁਟ ਗਏ।
ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਾ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਕਰੜੀ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਘਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਬਲਕਿ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਜੀਵਨ ਵਿਚ ਵੀ ਹੱਡਭੰਨਵੀਂ ਮਿਹਨਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਦਸਵੀਂ ਜਮਾਤ ਪਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਨਿਰੋਲ ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਘਾਲਣਾ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰੋਫੈਸਰ ਦੇ ਅਹੁਦੇ ‘ਤੇ ਪਹੁੰਚਣਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਾਮਿਸਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤੀ ਹੈ।

ਹਿੰਦੂ ਪਰਿਵਾਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ ਬਲਰਾਜ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ, ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਅਤ ਦੇ ਸ਼ੈਦਾਈ ਸਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ ਦੇਵ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਬਾਰੇ ਭਾਵੁਕ ਅੰਦਾਜ਼ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਥਾਂ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਹੈ, “ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕੀ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹੋ, ਇਹ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਕੋਈ ਇਕੱਲੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਸਨ? ਇਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਵੀ ਸਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਪੈਗਾਮ ਤਾਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਪੰਜਾਬੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਾਨਵ ਜਾਤੀ ਲਈ ਹੈ।”ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਾਏ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਬਦਲੇ ਬਲਰਾਜ ਸਾਹਨੀ ਨੂੰ 1971 ਈ. ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਵੱਲੋਂ ‘ਸ਼੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸਾਹਿਤਕਾਰ’ ਵਜੋਂ ਸਨਮਾਨਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੀ ਸਮਾਜਵਾਦੀ ਸੋਚ, ਦੇਸ਼ ਪਿਆਰ, ਸਾਹਿਤਕ ਤੇ ਫਿਲਮ ਜਗਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਬਦਲੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ 1969 ਈ. ਵਿੱਚ ‘ਪਦਮਸ਼੍ਰੀ’ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਧੀ ਦੇ ਕੇ ਵਿਭੂਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ।

ਸੁਰਜੀਤ ਪਾਤਰ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ 1993 ਵਿੱਚ “ਹਨੇਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁਲਗਦੀ ਵਰਨਮਾਲਾ” ਲਈ ਸਾਹਿਤ ਅਕਾਦਮੀ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅਤੇ 1999 ਵਿੱਚ “ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਪਰਿਸ਼ਦ ਕਲਕੱਤਾ” ਵਲੋਂ “ਪੰਚਨਾਦ ਪੁਰਸਕਾਰ” ਦਿੱਤਾ ਗਿਆ| ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵੱਲੋਂ
2012 ਵਿੱਚ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ‘ਪਦਮ ਸ਼੍ਰੀ’ ਦੀ ਉਪਾਧੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਨਮਨਾਤ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕਾ ਹੈ।ਪਰ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਡਾ ਸਨਮਾਨ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਵੱਲੋਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਬੇਪਨਾਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਹੈ।
