On July 25, Taiwan's Legislative Yuan rejected all seven nominees for Grand Justices, proposed by President Lai Ching-te. This marks the second time since December 2023 that all nominees have been voted down. The KMT and TPP jointly blocked the nominations, further delaying the full operation of the Constitutional Court.
DPP caucus whip Wu Szu-yao expressed deep regret, accusing opposition parties of undermining constitutional order through delays and political manipulation. She called on voters to use tomorrow’s recall election as a turning point to restore a functioning parliament.
The seven nominees—Tsai Chiu-ming (Chief Justice), Su Su-e (Vice President), Hsiao Wen-sheng, Cheng Chun-hui, Lin Li-ying, Chen Tzu-yang, and Chan Chen-jung—failed to reach the required majority of 57 votes to be confirmed.
