He was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to represent the Northern Territory in the primary school championships in years 5, 6, 7, U15s, 16s, and 18s while also representing the NTFL Mens Australia Day team at the age of 16. Through this exposure and playing NTFL senior football from the age of 15 he was drafted to the Melbourne Football Club at the end of 2001.
