Im September 2002 entführt Magnus Gäfgen den elfjährigen Bankierssohn Jakob von Metzler. Die Polizei kann den Täter schnell festsetzen, aber von Jakob fehlt jede Spur. In einem verzweifelten Versuch das Leben des Kindes zu retten, greift der Polizeivizepräsident zu extremen Mitteln und droht Gäfgen mit Folter.
