Jesus is Lord. Jesus will return to this earth as King of Kings.
We who belong to Jesus need to act like we belong to Jesus. We do not do good works to be saved. We do good works because we have been saved, to do good works. Some of us will live long enough to see the return of Jesus. Either that or we die, then see Jesus.

Enslaved in the world, yet serving God
God had His chosen people in bondage in Egypt for four hundred years, to keep them separate from people who had rebelled against God. Many years later, God had chosen people among the slaves of Rome.

Fellowship with God, Fellowship in the Church
God created us to have fellowship with God. That fellowship was broken by Adam and Eve. We read in the Bible about others who had fellowship with God, starting with Abel, then Noah and Abraham and Moses and David, and others. Jesus, the Son of God, came to restore that fellowship with God. When He left, He gave us the Holy Spirit, so we, the church, can have fellowship with God and each other. We are to bring others into the church, into fellowship with God.

Jesus saves us from bondage to sin, and from bondage to the law.
Our faith is in Jesus, not in rules and regulations. We do not do good works in order to be saved. We do good works because we have been saved.

God's chosen people spread the word of God to the gentiles.
God told Abraham the world would be blessed through his descendents. Jesus was born among the jews. He ministered to the jews, and also to the gentiles. The first Christian church was jewish. The church spread to the gentiles. Paul started as a radical pharisee persecuting Christians. Then he met Jesus. Paul became a radical evangelist bringing people into the Christian faith.

The Holy Spirit grew the church. Christians in Jerusalem were persecuted, so they went other places, preaching as they went.
Deacons were chosen to serve the church. One of those, Stephen, was a bold witness for Jesus. He was the first person to die for his faith in Jesus. Another deacon, Philip went with some of the church and preached to people in Samaria. Many people in Samaria became believers in Jesus. Philip was then sent by the Holy Spirit to meet an Ethiopian. Philip told him about Jesus, and the man took his faith back to Ethiopia.

Jesus came back to His disciples, and told them to tell others about Jesus. He gave them the Holy Spirit.
Jesus returned, and scared His disciples. He showed them He was alive, and not a ghost. He told them to tell other people about Jesus. He gave them the Holy Spirit, to empower them to tell others.

Jesus died, then rose from the dead.
People saw Jesus die. The reality of His death made it hard to understand that He was alive again. The information was hard to process. But then Jesus showed them He was alive, and explained to them why it had to happen that way.

Jesus died, was buried, and rose from the tomb.
Jesus was crucified, then stabbed, to make sure He was dead. He was placed in a tomb and stayed there for three days. God the Father raised His Son Jesus from the dead. Jesus met with his disciples and ascended into heaven and came back, more than a couple of times, as recorded in the Bible.

Jesus healed people and forgave their sins. Religious leaders didn't like Him because they didn't know God. Jesus taught truth through parables.
Jesus forgave the sins of a paralyzed man. Then Jesus healed him. Jesus healed people on the Sabbath, and he ate with sinners. Jesus taught through parables, which unbelievers didn't understand.

Jesus preached and Jesus performed miracles. Jesus called His apostles to serve in the same way.
Jesus healed people and cast out demons. He did this as a demonstration of the fact that He is the Messiah. Even so, some people rejected Jesus. Jesus taught a group of men to serve in the same way Jesus was serving. He was preparing them to be witnesses for Him after He was gone.

Jesus was very busy for two days.
Jesus preached to a large crowd. Then He healed a leper. Then He healed the servant of a Roman. Then He healed Peter's mother-in-law. Then He calmed a storm by speaking to the wind and the waves. Then He healed a man possessed by demons. Then He healed a woman who had been sick for 12 years. Then He raised a girl from the dead.

Jesus offered living water to the pharisee Nicodemus and the woman at the well. Those who hear the words of Jesus and do them, are building their house on the rock. Those who hear the words of Jesus and don't do them are building their house on sand.

The King of Kings enters the world.
Jesus came into the world. His coming was prophesied. King Herod tried to find Him and kill HIm, when he was still a baby. His family escaped to Egypt until after Herod died. When Jesus was 30 years old, He was baptized by John the Baptist, and then fasted in wilderness for 40 days. Then Jesus was tempted by Satan, and resisted temptation. Jesus started his ministry, performing miracles and telling people He was the Messiah. They rejected His message, and tried to push Him off a cliff, but it wasn't yet time for Him to die.

Obadiah to Malachi
In the last few small books of the Old Testament, God's prophets speak to God's people about the people's relationship to God. They are told to honor God in what they do. They are told to rebuild the Temple of God. God would empower them to do it in a way that the results would honor God. They are told to give back to God from what God had given to them, and they would receive more blessing from God. They are told that God will send them the Messiah.

From Daniel to Obadiah
Daniel's calling as a prophet started after the last king of Judah was dethroned, and the people of Judah were marched into exile. Daniel served God under many foreign kings. God protected him and gave him visions about the future, and about the coming Messiah. Ezra and Nehemiah served God in leading God's people as they went back to their homeland. Obadiah prophesied to the Edomites. The Edomites and the Israelites had a centuries long feud. The were both descendents of Abraham. Obadiah reminded them they were brothers, and warned the Edomites not to persecute the Israelites.

After another 150 years, the the southern kingdom fell to foreign invasion. God took care of His people, even while they were in exile. Daniel was a prophet from Judah, who served God through the reigns of several foreign kings.

Solomon's reign ends, the kingdom is divided, and God still protects his people.
Solomon built a great temple for God. But Solomon was lead away from God by his many wives, who brought with them their own gods. Solomon died and the kingdom was divided. Solomon's son promised the people his rule would be more harsh than Solomon's rule. Ten of the twelve tribes seceded from the union and were ruled by King Jeroboam. Solomon's son Rehoboam had the tribes of Judah and Benjamin. The kingdoms were neighbors for many years.

King Saul hunted for David and his men. They left Israel to gain safety for them and their families.
David had to leave town, because King Saul wanted to kill him. Saul knew God wanted David to be the next king. Saul didn't want to give up the kingdom. Saul and his army hunted for David and his men. David could have killed Saul on two occasions, but let him live. He knew God would decide the time of Saul's death. David and his men moved out of Israel, and pretended to be loyal to King Achish. They were secretly attacking Philistine cities, killing all possible witnesses.

David kills Goliath, joins the army, plays music for the king, marries the king's daughter, escapes the king's wrath.
In God's power, David killed Goliath. The king made him a commander in the king's army. His fame exceeded the fame of the king. Saul got jealous and gave him a dangerous assignment, hoping he would die in battle. David was victorious. Saul offered his daughter in marriage as reward for another dangerous assignment. David did the deed, and married the king's daughter. While David played music for the king, the king tried to kill him with a spear. David escaped and became a fugitive.

From Samuel to Saul to David
Samuel was a good judge. When he got old, he delegated authority to his sons. They were not good judges. The people wanted a king, so they could be like the countries around them. At God's direction, Samuel anointed King Saul. He was a good king, for a while. Power has a tendency to corrupt men in power. Saul overstepped his authority. Then he disobeyed God. God directed Samuel to anoint a new king. That was David. But it would be years before David became king.

Judges, from Joshua to Eli
Joshua and God's army went through the promised land, destroying the kingdoms there, because God gave the land to His people. After hundreds of years, the Israelites wandered away from God. Eli did not raise his sons to serve God. Then God gave him Samuel to raise to serve God. Eli's sons died in a battle against the Philistines, because they had taken the Ark of the Covenant to battle as a good luck charm. Eli died when he heard the news. The Israelites lost the war and the Ark of the Covenant. The Philistines were struck with plagues...

The Ten Commandments, The Promised Land, and back to the Wilderness
God gave Moses the Ten Commandments to give to the people. While Moses was getting the Law, the people were in the camp worshipping an idol. Moses threw the stone tablets with the commandments on the ground breaking them. Then Moses directed the execution of many as an example for the others. He went back on the mountain with God to get more commandments. They went to the promised land but were afraid to go in. Isaac's Family with Rachel, Jacob, and Esau
Isaac and Rachel had twin sons. Esau and Jacob were always in competition with each other, starting before they were born. They wrestled with each other in their mother's womb. When Esau was born, his brother Jacob was holding on to his brother's heel. In that culture it was tradition for the first born to have the greater part of the inheritance. Jacob cheated his brother out of the birthright. He then had to leave to escape his brother's wrath. Jacob went off and got married and had many children. God blessed him and told him to go back...
