Pop Art de la Collection Guggenheim)。 这是时隔25年之后,这家美术馆再次举办以波普艺术为主题的展览。上一次是1999年,取名“美国波普艺术”。 过了四分之一世纪,换一个角度再来回顾波普艺术,我想这是对古根海姆馆藏的波普艺术作为一个流派和这个流派的作品价值的再次确认。先谈谈波普艺术到底是什么。波普艺术这个词最开始的时候其实就是群众艺术,民间艺术, 大众艺术,流行艺术。法国的跳蚤市场上经常会听到l’art populaire 民间艺术的说法,指的就是那种在造型格式上很传统很民俗的东西,比方说雕刻着人物动物造型的并不太精致的拐杖, 卖家就说:这是l’art populaire 民间艺术, 大众艺术风格的拐杖。而那种在艺术史上可圈可点的雕塑作品,比方说米开朗基罗的雕塑,罗丹的雕塑就不一样了,因为米开朗基罗和罗丹不被看作是民间艺术家,他们的艺术不会被打上民间艺术的标签, 而是有其他标签。换句话说,在世俗的眼光里,艺术的地位等级可以分作高端艺术和低端艺术。L’art populaire 群众艺术,民间艺术, 大众艺术,流行艺术没有被归类到高端艺术的行列, 没有被归类到文艺复兴时期那一类为政权和权贵服务的艺术作品的行列。Pop art 波普艺术, 是popular art (L’art populaire) 群众艺术发展而来的新时代的衍生品,变异品;一开始,自然也被高端艺术和低端艺术这个座标笼罩着。屡见不鲜的是,群众看不起群众艺术,民俗往往被称为俗气。群众仰视权贵艺术。因为很长一段时间艺术教育灌输给群众的是超凡脱俗的价值, 不属于群众这个阶层的生活的图腾。权贵的符号被万众膜拜,和群众里的家常便饭的图腾被群众自己视而不见,熟视无睹,不当回事儿,清楚地界定了群众眼里什么是高端艺术,什么是低端艺术。波普艺术的成就就是颠覆了20世纪的高端艺术与低端艺术的群众界定。把普罗大众和下里巴人的日常生活里的符号放在权贵符号的位置上,让群众体会到在群众那里不值钱的符号如何在群众艺术里成为图腾,群众艺术又是如何和权贵艺术一样精贵的。当然,让群众艺术精贵的决定因素是不是群众 ? 是谁引导群众去膜拜群众艺术,让群众艺术成为波普艺术的?是引导群众去膜拜权贵艺术的一批人,一个系统吗? 谁是游戏中的设计者,操纵者? 谁是游戏的参与者? 谁是教主,谁是信徒 ? 这些问题一说穿,就把波普艺术放进了20世纪和21世纪的艺术观和艺术系统的长江后浪推前浪的汹涌澎湃里了。Bilao 古根海姆再展波普,给观众提供了一个瞻仰舍利, 在舍利面前给自己定位的机会:你是要当今天和权贵艺术的价值有得比的波普艺术的膜拜者? 还是要当历史的观察者,在一个更大的艺术规律的框架里看一个时期的鬼灵精怪的鬼斧神工? 还是要考量自己要不要当一回新时期更科学的牛鬼蛇神去为自己为人民谋幸福?有了这个前提作为思路的导向,我们可以更微观更具体一点从艺术的创作法和创作主题的层面来看波普艺术。 它确实是20世纪新发展起来的开创性艺术。在欧美的艺术系统里,古典油画和古典雕塑的写实,印象派,野兽派,立体主义的变形, 达达和杜尚的观念等各自在艺术史上成为里程碑的时候,用一种还没有被定义为好艺术的,却更新鲜的方法将审美,情绪和思想拿来做艺术作品,同时通过艺术共享产生的影响反过来确立艺术作品的价值,这是波普艺术很典型的经历。波普艺术家们从战后经济腾飞时期的消费膨胀的符号, 产品包装和广告入手,选取了社会大众沸腾的生活里有代表性的一个个细节。 材料和手段上,有的将产品包装的设计原封不动地照搬过来,用画笔将印刷品上的内容转录到纸面或布面上,努力地不露绘画的痕迹。也有的直接用包装材料硬纸板拼成一个抽象图形。Andy Warhol 的Campbell’s 番茄汤罐头 (Campbell’s soup cans)就是一个典型的例子。当大众商品消费里人们习以为常的日用小商品形象变成了艺术品,通过自己的生活细节中司空见惯的符号摇身一变成的艺术品这面镜子,人们从中观察和反思自己的生活的时候,波普艺术作为新的艺术手段就形成了气候,逐渐成为潮流。既然小商品可以从生活里来到艺术中去,波普艺术家就把这种套路延伸出去。他们让政治明星,文艺明星也和小商品一样,从生活走进波普艺术。这些政治明星,文艺明星在实际生活中,本来就有他们的宣传品,最常见的就是肖像。玛丽莲梦露有银盐照片和电影海报,毛泽东有油画肖像和纸面,布面,丝绸面,锦缎面的肖像。那波普艺术家就用他们的办法来仿制生活中抬头不见低头见的玛丽莲梦露图和毛泽东图。用新图像来表达已知图像。已知图像越有名,新图像就会乘着已知图像的人气的翅膀,飞黄腾达, 飞得越高,越 popular , 也就是说越具有群众性,越有人气,越波普。借用民粹的视角去看波普,波普艺术从某种意义上来说,也是民粹艺术。从索绪尔的语言学的角度去看波普,拿一种能指去描述另一种能指里的所指,能活生生地把群众艺术,民间艺术, 大众艺术,流行艺术里的群众,民间, 大众,流行精炼成不一定那么群众,不一定那么民间,不一定那么大众,不一定那么流行的上层建筑的云里雾里。波普艺术的代表人物 Andy Warhol 就把70年代的毛泽东,梦露,和他自己的图像,象对待Campbell’s 番茄汤罐头那样,拿来就用。原来所有这些人的肖像可能是摄影图像的印刷品,他改了制作方法,用丝网印刷。在方法上,对毛泽东,对梦露, 对他自己的图像的处理,与对Campbell’s 番茄汤罐头的处理是一个模式。 但是, Campbell’s 番茄汤罐头到了 Warhol 的雅克力绘图里之后,它还具有原来的印刷版的广告效应吗? 毛泽东的头像从油画变成丝网印刷版的Warhol 作品以后还具有原本的领袖肖像的作用, 可以放在天安门城楼上吗? 梦露的明星照在经过 Warhol 的丝网印刷处理后还具备原来的明星照的功能吗?不一定。当原生图像被再现的图像轮回,被拿到另一种语境条件里去用;当原生图像经过艺术工艺的转换,成为新图所要表现的内容时;新图的表达范围和原生图像所表达的意思已经发生变化,不一样了。比方说梵高画作里的墙面上有日本浮世绘的作品。梵高画里的浮世绘和浮世绘原作,虽然都是一种图形,但是两个相似的图所能表达的意思,换句话说,他们的所指已经完全不一样了。波普艺术所处理的图像就是这样。 Warhol的例子说明用一种图像表达另一种图像, 尤其是接地气的图像,看起来和原始图像异曲同工,但同种不同文,同文不同种, 同图不同义, 同义不同图。波普艺术里的同种不同文,同文不同种的现象制造了波普作品新生意义与被描绘图像的原始意义上的含糊,混乱。 这种含糊,混乱可能是一时的调侃,也可能从调侃发展成更为复杂的产物作品,从发展中艺术走向发达艺术。那怎么才可以判断波普艺术是不是正在从发展中走向发达呢? 怎么可以判断已经抵达了发达的境界了呢?这次西班牙Bilbao 古根海姆举办波普艺术展,特别提到了早年纽约古根海姆美术馆的英国策展人和理论家Laurence Alloway。Laurence Alloway 在1963年策划了纽约古根海姆美术馆的波普艺术展,题为“六位画家和对象”。 这六位画家分别是: Robert Rauschenberg, Jim Dine, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, James Rosenquist, and Andy Warhol。 对策展人来说,这些艺术家,要么是初出茅庐,要么是在事业的中段。当时的古根海姆馆长Thomas M.
