We explained his meanings behind these idioms. In this lesson he expands from his opening words, "...we proclaim concerning the word (logos) of life..." to the phrase in 2:7 "...the word (logos) you heard." By "expansion" I mean that John is taking a previous concept and then expands the meaning as he continues to write his letter.
