The Updated McDonald Diagnostic Criteria for MS with Dr. Andrew Solomon
Since 2001, clinicians have relied on the McDonald Diagnostic Criteria as the gold standard for diagnosing someone with multiple sclerosis. As science continues to add to our understanding of MS, the McDonald Criteria have been updated in 2005, 2010, 2017, and most recently in 2024. This latest iteration of the McDonald criteria will be published in September, and today, Dr. Andrew Solomon is giving us a preview of what these changes are, what they mean, and how they're going to improve the process of diagnosing someone with MS. Why Communism is a Failed Religion
Communism represents humanity's largest-ever attempt at total societal reinvention—briefly ruling ONE-THIRD of the human race! we both independently marked communist territories as completely different civilizations from what came before. This episode reveals why communism ultimately failed to establish itself as a lasting civilization despite controlling massive territory and populations. I explore its theological and sociological underpinnings as a functional religion, avoiding philosophical naval-gazing by focusing on historical evidence.--SPONSORS:NetSuite: More than 41,000 businesses have already upg...

Avoiding the Risks of Misdiagnosing MS with Dr. Andrew Solomon
MS is misdiagnosed too often, which leaves some people who don't have MS receiving expensive disease-modifying therapy that they don't need, while leaving other people who do have MS still not receiving treatment with a disease-modifying therapy that will slow disability progression and preserve their quality of life longer. My guest, Dr. Andrew Solomon, is the lead author of a paper published by a team of international experts that provides updated guidance for healthcare professionals on clinical approaches to diagnosing MS. Dr. Solomon joins me to discuss why MS can be difficult to diagnose and how that s...

Mental Health in 2023 - Definitions, Terms and Statistics
Since we are in mental awareness month, I thought about approaching this exact topic here on the channel. Normally I wouldn’t approach such high and dense topics since I only feel like I generalize a lot, even if the information comes from literature, articles, reviews, institutions, and international organizations that deal with the issue. We explored what does Mental Health mean for us (as I asked you), some definitions of the most commonly used terms (such as anxiety, gaslighting), some trends in mental health awareness between 1993 and 2023 (30 years), and some applicable methods on how to make our day be...

Diagnosing and Misdiagnosing MS with Dr. Andrew Solomon
The challenge of living with MS often begins with the challenge of getting a timely and accurate diagnosis. There are no symptoms, physical findings, or laboratory tests that can, by themselves, determine if someone has MS, and the most common symptoms of MS can often resemble symptoms of other conditions. All of these variables can sometimes lead to patients getting the wrong diagnosis. Dr. Andrew Solomon, Associate Professor of Neurological Sciences and Division Chief of Multiple Sclerosis at the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, is joining me to discuss diagnosing and misdiagnosing MS.

This is our last episode in our Exile series. In part 1 (0-9:50), Tim and Jon summarize the conversation. Tim shares an insightful quote from C.S Lewis found in the Weight of Glory. Lewis believed that un-fillable human longings are a clue that there is another future reality that will one day be realized. In part 2 (9:50-14:50), the guys discuss the differences between “home” and “Home.” “Home” is the ultimate paradise of humanity. Man is at “Home” in all aspects.
