在我的人生旅途中，曾出現過一幕幕驚心動魄、出生入死的情景。雖然那是很久以前的事，但至今在我的腦海裡仍然如此清晰。回頭看，上帝才是我的保護神，不光在今生，更是直到永生。
驚險的歷程
1989年夏天，我住在中國廣州。一位好友剛剛搬入新居，迫不及待要我看她的新屋，於是我在一天下午趕過去。當我走到那幢樓附近時，突然一個重約六磅的鐵球從樓頂上掉落下來，從我的右手擦過，一聲巨響讓在場的人都嚇呆了。當他們看到我這個剛剛躲過死神一劫仍驚魂未定的幸運兒時，有人走過來語重心長地對我說：「這是佛爺保佑妳啊！趕快上廟吧！」
回家後，我把當天所經歷的險情告訴了我的叔婆（父親叔叔的妻子），叔婆對我說：「是祖先在天之靈庇護妳，今晚要祭祖感恩。」叔婆常對我說，要飲水思源，知恩圖報，祭祖是對祖先的孝敬和懷念；不忘先祖的恩德和遺訓，子孫後代才會興旺，財運亨通。叔婆早年從台山來到廣州，在鐵路局工作，丈夫早年因病離世，身邊沒有兒女。我父親11歲時，叔婆把他從台山帶到廣州，一起生活。父親長大後也跟她一起在鐵路局工作，後來成為一名出色的列檢技工，年年被評為先進工作者。叔婆退休後來到我家，像保姆般照顧我們一家人。她曾給我講述早年日本侵華的血淚史，讓她飽經風霜，九死一生，能衝破危難，化險為夷，都是老天爺和祖宗的庇佑。逢中國人的大節日，無論家務多忙，她都不忘祭祖。每逢祭祖，我都給她幫忙，漸漸地我也學會了祭祖。
1990年11月，我剛移居美國不久，坐巴士去洛杉磯，途中經過幾個大城市。一天中午巴士中途停在休斯頓，我跟旅客們都下了車。那天天色朦朧，附近的馬路非常寬闊，但行人稀少。我有點餓了，想找一家中餐館吃東西。當我邊走邊東張西望時，一個年輕中等身材的男子朝我走來，對我笑笑，然後很有禮貌地對我說：「我可以幫妳嗎？」我打量了他一下，便告訴他想找中餐館。他說附近就有一間，可以給我帶路。我當時沒起戒心便跟著他沿著馬路走，才走了短短一百多尺的路程，他趁著四周無人，突然轉身抓住我的雙臂，把我拖到附近一間隱蔽在路旁的破舊小屋裡。當時我使出渾身解數，拚命跟他搏鬥，好不容易才把他甩開，朝門口衝去。他隨即又向我撲過來，兇猛如虎，把我壓倒在地上。這時我已精疲力盡，不能動彈了。正當他伸出魔爪，脫我外衣企圖強暴我的時候，兩名警員破門而入，及時營救了我，把那個色慾薰心的禽獸逮捕了。我對兩位警員感激萬分，其中一位對我說：「妳要感謝耶穌。」我的驚險歷程使我意識到，冥冥之中有位真神一直在看顧保守著我，但這位真神到底是佛爺還是耶穌的問題，一直纏繞在我的腦海中。
不幸的婚姻
我結婚時還沒有綠卡，丈夫是來自台灣的美國公民。他出生於一個富裕的家庭，從加州大學河濱分校（UC Riverside）數學系畢業，是一所學校的老師。他身材高大，年紀跟我相近。我跟他結婚並非為了綠卡，而是他的吉他彈奏吸引了我。我酷愛音樂，喜歡唱歌，這是我跟他墮入愛河的原因；但跟他生活在一起後不久，我就發現他要控制我的綠卡申請和經濟等，並拒絕為我申請綠卡。我的第二個孩子臨產前幾個月，在我多次據理力爭下，他才勉強給我辦了綠卡申請。女兒出生後不久，他竟要我支付申請綠卡的1,500美元費用，我只好出外工作，但他和他母親對我外出工作大為不滿。有一天，我接到移民律師事務所的電話，說我丈夫到移民局取消了他給我辦的綠卡申請。這消息如同晴天霹靂，我知道他並非誠心幫我，而是用身分掌控我。1995年5月，婚姻終於走到了盡頭。當時我不會開車，身上僅有幾百元，對未來感到憂心忡忡。我勤奮地工作，不久也學會了開車。
上帝的恩典
有一天，我遇到一位基督徒，她星期天帶我去了教會。牧師講道提到聖經中的話：「上帝愛世人，甚至將祂的獨生子賜給他們，叫一切信祂的，不致滅亡，反得永生。」（約翰福音3:16）主耶穌是上帝的獨生子，祂卑微降世，為世人的罪被釘在十字架上，流血犧牲，成為替罪羔羊。牧師還提到一位叫以賽亞的先知說：「祂為我們的過犯受害，為我們的罪孽壓傷。」（以賽亞書53:5）如此大愛令我深受感動。牧師又提到：「你若口裡認耶穌為主，心裡信上帝叫祂從死裡復活，就必得救。」（羅馬書10:9）後來，我悔改信了主耶穌，從此開始學習上帝的話語──聖經。聖經勉勵我：「應當一無掛慮，只要凡事藉著禱告、祈求，和感謝，將你們所要的告訴上帝。上帝所賜、出人意外的平安必在基督耶穌裡保守你們的心懷意念。」（腓立比書4:6-7）我開始把我的情形向上帝禱告。
那時我剛信主，也沒有受洗，不知道上帝不喜悅離婚，與前夫辦離婚時，雙方為兩個孩子的監護權多次上庭。法庭離我住的地方很遠，高速公路要開車一個多小時。當時我不會開高速公路，遇到了重重困難。這時聖經上的話激勵我：「我雖行在患難中，祢必將我救活。」（詩篇138:7）我深信主耶穌，凡事倚靠祂，每次出庭前都祈禱。我所在的華人播道會粵語堂的曾牧師，曾在清晨五點半開車載我去法庭，令我深受感動。上帝又差派鄭綺彤這位天使般的律師來幫助我，當時律師費一小時是150元，有時上一次法庭要等大半天。我第一次付完兩千元律師費後就沒錢再付了，但她仍然多次為我出庭。感謝上帝，最後法官把兩個小孩的監護權都判給我。我的律師費多達七千元，除去已付的我尚欠五千元，鄭律師知道我的前夫每月給兩個孩子的撫養費不到兩百元，經濟上有很大的困難，便免了我的欠款。這令我驚喜萬分，我對她所給予的慷慨相助有說不盡的感激。
不久，移民局公佈一項新政策，凡受虐待的婦女可自己提出綠卡申請；我又遇到一位名叫Judy的美國律師，她知道我經濟困難，只收了我兩百元訂金，就幫我向移民局提出上訴。我的綠卡申請雖然幾番周折，但我對上帝的信心沒有動搖，仍恆切禱告，教會的弟兄姊妹也為我代禱。律師多次出庭後，移民局經過三年的審核，終於在1999年12月批准了我的綠卡申請。我對Judy律師充滿了感激，我更要感謝主耶穌，在我憂傷的時候，祂賜我安慰；彷徨的時候，祂賜我智慧和信心；軟弱的時候，祂賜我力量，使我剛強。
生命的改變
我於1998年7月26日受浸，歸於主基督的名下，成為上帝的兒女。信主後，聖經上的教導慢慢改變我。以前我對前夫取消我的綠卡申請和他上庭不如實報收入的惡劣行為恨之入骨。他每月只付兩個孩子178美元的撫養費，讓我這個單身母親一度陷入財務危機，經歷了很多生活困難。他給我的傷害令我痛苦不堪，有時候在我裡面如翻江倒海，那種厭惡和憎恨的情緒老是揮之不去；但是聖經話語不斷浮現：「因為人的怒氣並不成就上帝的義。」（雅各書1:20）「你們饒恕人的過犯，你們的天父也必饒恕你們的過犯；你們不饒恕人的過犯，你們的天父也必不饒恕你們的過犯。」（馬太福音6:14-15）我多次默想主耶穌，當祂被釘在十字架上時，還在為那些侮辱和釘死祂的人向父上帝禱告：「父啊！赦免他們；因為他們所做的，他們不曉得。」（路加福音23:34）
我反覆思想，感到內疚和羞愧。不管聽了多少講道，讀了多少聖經，最重要的是，我是否遵守了上帝的誡命，活出了上帝的話語，為祂作了美好的見證。我求上帝赦免我，醫治我，改變我。當我打心裡去饒恕前夫時，我心中的怨恨和傷痛得到了釋放；當我對前夫改變態度與他和睦相處時，孩子們也感到很欣慰。沒有饒恕，對立的雙方就不可能和平；沒有饒恕，就不可能彼此和解。感謝上帝，藉著祂饒恕的大愛，讓我饒恕了曾經傷害我的人。這正應驗了上帝的話：「若有人在基督裡，他就是新造的人，舊事已過，都變成新的了。」（哥林多後書5:17）感謝上帝，「我一生一世必有恩惠慈愛隨著我；我且要住在耶和華的殿中，直到永遠。」（詩篇23:6）
