路恩哲自己是北美著名的實踐神學家，他和丁康黛（Kenda Creasy Dean）本身在推動所謂的「神學踐行轉向」（the theological turn in youth ministry），並且認為潘霍華是這個運動的先驅。到底什麼是這個「theological turn」呢，從哪裡轉到哪裡呢？簡單說，就是批判那種工業式或是科技思維的事工模式，不管是要門徒倍增還是小組增長，其實都是一種把「活生生的人」當作要解決的問題，而要成就某個事工目標。
而要轉向何方呢？我的理解，是要去探索青年人的具體處境和活生生的經歷，視之為與上帝相遇的場所，並藉此參與上帝的行動與存有（頁17）。
