Joanne's parents, Daniel and Mary, became concerned for her welfare, and as a result, police were sent to her apartment on 34th St. Within the apartment, authorities found Joanne's dead body; she had been strangled to death. No arrests or charges have ever been made, and this case remains unsolved.

A search ensued for the teen, however, tragically, ten months later, her body was found under some trees behind Smithers airport. Whilst there, Claudette met a male trucker who she became scared of after he tried to force himself on her. Claudette managed to flee the motel towards a phone booth located at the intersection of Selkirk Avenue and King Street, where she made a number of desperate phone calls to relatives in the early hours of June 25th, asking them to come and pick her up, but unfortunately, nobody answered. Lisa called her friend in a panic, asking for him to come and get her because she was told that she wasn’t allowed to leave. Stolen SistersCase 01: Elena Assam-ThunderbirdOn May 31st 2002, 17-year-old Elena Assam-Thunderbird went for a night out in Ottawa, Ontario, with her best friend. During the early hours, the pair met two strange men in Primrose Park, one of whom offered to walk Elena to a nearby bus stop by LeBreton Flats, however, he took advantage of Elena's trusting nature. The following day, the teens body was found in the Ottawa River, having been bludgeoned over the head and sexually assaulted.
