豆腐国际Vol.04 Laura Broxson(爱尔兰国家动权协会) | 全英
How can a grassroots organization take on animal exploitation industries—and win? In this episode, we're joined by Laura Broxson, founder of Ireland's National Animal Rights Association (NARA). Laura went vegan at 13, founded NARA at 18, and has been deeply involved in Ireland's animal rights movement for over two decades. She shares how NARA, with a core team of fewer than ten people, successfully pushed Ireland to ban fur farming in 2019 through a multi-pronged strategy of undercover investigations, legislative lobbying, and public mobilization. Now, NARA has turned its attention to Ireland's pig industry. They're advocating for a bill that appears to be a welfare reform—banning sow stalls, farrowing crates, and mutilations like tail docking—but its true purpose is to make factory farming economically unviable, achieving what Laura calls a "backdoor ban." At the same time, they're actively promoting a transition to plant-based agriculture, offering farmers a practical path out of the industry. This conversation reveals how seemingly modest welfare reforms can become powerful tools for dismantling systems of exploitation. Beyond campaign strategy, Laura also shares how NARA operates—a leaderless, non-hierarchical team where members take on tasks based on their own passions, united by a shared moral baseline on issues like anti-racism and anti-sexism, and sustained by mutual support rather than criticism. Her story offers inspiration for every animal rights advocate fighting alone: even if it's just you, you can start—and make a difference. For those curious about Laura's vegan origin story, be sure to check out our Slightly Tofu International Vol. 02 for an in-depth look at her journey.Follow NARA's work and stay updated on their campaigns at http://www.naracampaigns.org/ (IG: naracampaigns).Laura is a veteran
