小艾瑪爾是以敘利亞難民小女孩為形象做成的12呎高木偶，走遍各國呼籲民眾重視難民危機。為了迎接小艾瑪爾來到紐約華埠，馬藝瑄做了很多功課，深入了解了華埠的移民歷史，再結合華埠的社區特色和路況，設計出互動感極強的布景——一件件寫著不同語言文字的衣服，通過晾衣繩纏繞防火梯之上，小艾瑪爾走過之時，衣服也纏繞在了她身上。馬藝瑄解釋，這背後的寓意其實十分溫暖。
「小艾瑪爾被衣服纏繞住，會發現只要她願意，哪裡都是她的家。這個心情也跟移民很像，大家帶著不同的目的來，最後在這裡找到歸宿。這可能是我最近做過的最有意義的設計了。」
馬藝瑄跟戲劇結緣已經有十年。她從台大戲劇係畢業，後來到紐約大學讀舞台和電影設計研究所，畢業後在紐約百老匯闖蕩至今。在她眼裡，儘管作為一名百老匯幕後工作者，工作時間長和報酬少是不爭的事實，又經歷了三年的疫情考驗，但對劇場「不可複製性」的熱愛，是馬藝瑄留守的原因之一。
「劇場無法被複製，不能被重播，這深深吸引著我。觀眾會突然想到某一齣戲的某一個時刻，會想到自己過去的人生經驗，或者發現它跟當代社會發生的連結。這個經驗是無法取代的。去觸發這個時刻的發生，是我工作最大的意義。」
