S2. Chapter 24: Pam Bondi and The Dow of MAGA vs. The Tao of Lloyd
Pam Bondi screams, “The Dow is over 50,000!” when asked about Jeffrey Epstein’s co-conspirators.And suddenly the mask slips. Is it deflection? Gaslighting? Or is it translation? In Chapter 24 of the Tao of Lloyd, Lloyd Dobler explores what happens when performance replaces truth, when the market matters more than the missing, when green arrows outweigh human beings, and when even resistance starts to feel like auditioning.Because here’s the uncomfortable twist:It’s not just Pam Bondi performing. It’s all of us.Using Chapter 24 of...

It wants you jittery, reactive, scrolling… so you never do the one thing that scares it: get clear. This episode includes a Tao Te Ching reading, a guided “sort-of meditation,” and Lloyd’s most embarrassingly...

Send us a message! Include how to reach you if you want a response. I'm incarcerated, Lloyd!!This week on Deep Thoughts About Stupid Shit, Emily shares her analysis of one of the classic movies that happened to miss the Guy girls the first time around: Say Anything. Cameron Crowe's 1989 romance/comedy created some iconic moments in our collective Gen X childhood--notably the scene of John Cusack's Lloyd Dobler holding the boom box playing Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" over his head. Crowe's storytelling also turned a curious eye to toxic masculinity by s...

S2. Chapter 19: Late Stage Capitalism (Who’s Stealing Your Time?)
What happens when we mistake overworked and exhausted for virtue? Lloyd Dobler turns to the Tao Te Ching to examine why Americans are so tired, so rushed, and so starved for time with the people they love. Blending spiritual commentary, political critique, and dry Gen X humor, Lloyd asks what it would mean to design a life—and a society—where human beings matter more than productivity metrics. 80s Flick Flashback
#128 - "Say Anything..." (1989) with Bethany Wells
In 1989, Cameron Crowe’s Say Anything became an iconic 80s romance that captured the awkwardness and sweetness of young love. This isn’t your typical romance—Lloyd isn’t the usual leading man, and Diane isn’t the stereotypical love interest. Instead, the film subverts expectations to deliver a heartfelt, unconventional love story that still resonates today.
